Arizona Coyotes to announce Tempe arena due to open 2019/2020 Season
This solves everything. That location is going to be perfect! Right on ASU campus, accessible via light rail, 10-20 minutes from Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Gilbert AND Chandler where 95% of the fanbase lives!!
Bravo Ice Arizona/ASU
Joint arena with ASU hockey & BBall

16,000 ("plus") seat arena? Bit on the tiny side, but the location should dramatically improve the org's chances.

I wonder what Glendale does with their arena now? Does it become a useless, vacant arena? Do they just blow it up? I guess they will only host concerts although a new Tempe arena will provide competition for concerts.

Well that should buy the team another decade before moving, I suppose.

AMAZING! We have a place just outside of Mesa, no more 1 hour and 15 min drives to Glendale.

I don't really care to be honest. They were a pain to deal with. Despite whether or not Arizona is a "good hockey market", their actions have been very detrimental to trying to make it work. Hopefully this new arena deal will get the Coyotes more stability and support moving forward.

Its already a useless, vacant arena. Outside of the Coyotes, there are only two other events scheduled for all of November - one of which is an ASU hockey game that will also head to the new facility. One event for December (Trans Siberian Orchestra), NOTHING in January or February. Three events in March.
Doesn't look like the city is all that astute at managing the facility. And since the new rink will add yet more competition to the Phoenix area, hard to see things improving.

So that's two new arenas before we can get one?
Cool. Good job Ken King.

It's almost as if American municipalities are far more willing to give money over to stadium projects than their Canadian counterparts are.

If a new arena in Calgary requires that the taxpayers fund the majority of said arena, I'm more than okay with not giving in to the Flames' request.

Not to mention CalgaryNEXT is much larger scale than this arena.

Yes, the glendale arena worked out so well, we should follow that model.

I'm not opposed to helping them a little bit but I'd agree the vast majority should be from the team.

Did I suggest building a rink in Airdrie or Okotoks? Must have missed that.
I just want a new rink. Arizona has gotten two to our zero. That's about as much thought I put into my post.
