I would like the Pens to kick in something else for the Flames taking the contract off their hands maybe a 3rd rounder?
I just posted in the other thread about Gio-Pens so let's do a blockbuster
Gio+Elliott
For
Fleury+Kessel

Not to be mean, but why?
Are we rebuilding or reshuffling? And if you think this club is bad now, take Gio out of the blueline and Kessell won't make a difference.
Plus we're taking on Fleury's contract, no thanks.

I'd want assets in return for taking on Fleury's contract. Right now the Penguins are forced to protect him and expose Murray in the expansion draft.
Plus Fleury has not been good for a while.

I'd only do it if the Penguins added Sheary.

I can imagine Kessell would quickly squash any trade that involves him going to a Canadian team.
I doubt he would want anything to do with our fanbase.

I guess my logic is trying to get out of the Gio contract and fill the gap on RW. I know if is a huge blow to the blueline but at least adds a needed scoring winger

I'm fully supportive of any move to hopefully improve goaltending, but doesn't Fleury have an NMC which is why they can't expose him for expansion? I'm not sure why any player would agree to be traded from a cup contender to the disaster that is the Calgary Flames.

No goaltender has worn the #14 in the NHL since the thirties. George Hainsworth and Herb Stuart are the only two netminders to ever wear the number.

Fleury had a .921 save % last season in 58 games. He has been passed by Murray but still had good numbers last year. He is off this year but that could have to do with the situation he is in where he knows he is on the way out

Except that you add a 5.7 million dollar cap hit to the flames bottom line for 2 more years, for a goalie that's been declining for a while.
So we're actually putting ourselves in a terrible cap position and rushing to get rid of Gio way before we should even think about doing that.
I really don't think its a good deal at all for the Flames, I actually think it would be incredibly damaging for no real benefits.
Plus I tend to think that if we put Gio on the open market, we'd probably get a better package elsewhere.

Average goaltender for Average goaltender? I think I'll pass this deal wouldn't make sense for the Flames. Theres no point making any major trades this season. Even if the Flames make the playoffs there is no way in hell they are getting past the first round
