Treliving w/o contract for next year

Not sure if anyone else caught Elliot Friedman this am.
He mentioned it was odd that Treliving didn't have a contract for next year.

Hmm maybe if he doesn't get this team to playoffs he's out ?

Hopefully Burke doesn't either. The supporting cast around Tod Button's strong core is pretty underwhelming outside of Hamilton.

I can't see that happening, he's done more good then bad for the organization. Unless he prices himself out of the Flames bracket.

Treliving has been thus far the best GM of the Flames in his short tenure, so they better re-sign him. All his moves that I've disagreed with, they've seemed like a Burke mandate more than something Treliving would have done. Such as the early firing of Hartley, trading of Baertschi, waiving Byron, and not resigning Colbourne (although the last one proved me wrong).

We should totally trade him at the deadline to Winnipeg for picks and prospects.
 Asset management people.

Guy demanded a trade when his contract was about to expire...asset returned also looks good

I can't imagine Burke won't be without a contract. When he was hired, King said he wanted stability within the organization. The idea was to have a president remain in position and have a turnover of GMs.

Don Maloney sitting at home, tapping his fingers a la Mr. Burns.
Pretty sure Treliving isn't going anywhere. Probably wants to do his business this way.

As for Burke. I think where theres smoke theres fire and he's off to run USA Hockey.

Both him and Burke will be back, I'm not worried. Probably the usual "There's more important things to worry about right now" thing

I think he's got a ways to go to top Cliff Fletcher.

Right, but why did he demand a trade? Probably because Burke publicly insulted the kid on the radio of all places.

That's like going up to your best talent in your workplace and calling him lazy in a safety meeting while everyone is listening, and then wonder why he wants to quit and is now working for the competition. The trade return was un-winnable even though the return wasn't too bad, its the fact that we HAD to trade him is what bothers me.

If we can fit Treliving' salary under the cap, I'd love to see him back.

More likely Hartley than Burke. Sven wanted more ice time to prove what he could do, Coaches wanted him to prove what he could do before giving him more ice time. Not the first time we've seen that relationship breakdown between a coach and a player and it won't be the last.

I know its a bit of a pipe dream, but I'm hoping we can package Treliving with Bouma, Elliott, Wideman (50% retained) to the Leafs for Marner and Reilly. Might have to add a 3rd rounder though.
