Default It's time to extend Johnson

That's not a euphemism, I really do think it's time to sign him to a contract and roll the dice with him as our starter in the next few years. It's not just his record this year, but last year and beyond.

Quite simply, he is our best option, and he seems a good option.

I don't seem as a starter but as 1B Goalie. A Goalie who can come in and make the saves and win the odd game for the Flames. I would still sign him but not for anything over 3mill

He's much better than Elliott. Not sure if I want the Chad re-signed yet but I definitely don't want Elliott back at all.

At the very least he would be a stop gap until any of Gillies, Parsons, or Mcdonald are ready to be the starter. Probably wouldn't cost a lot to get done either.

3 year deal, do it Brad.

If he's willing to sign for 2 years at decently cheap, I'm all in.

I worry he views himself as a starter from some of his comments. Which is a good thing, and I don't disagree with him... but he might be looking for $$$

I doubt he wants anything less than 3 years and probably will want 4.

That becomes an issue with where this club wants to be at that time. I have no doubt BT wants a younger guy that can grow with the clubs core. No one older than 25ish i would wager.

All depends on term IMO ($$ too but not likely to be a huge issue unless another top line RW is acquired).

I'd love to re-sign him, however I'd be hesitant to give him big dollars and term. 2 years at $2.5-$3mil AAV would be comfortable for me. He's been great this year, I just don't want to commit long term and have this be an Andrew Hammond situation.

He has proven a hell of a lot more then Hammond ever has.

If he signs under $2.5 I'll happily have him for 4 years if that was his bargain point. We know he's at least a great option at backup. He'd either be used in tandem, or as a backup and that salary works.

Not to take away from the potential of Chad being a great option as a starter. Just too much in the pipeline to put all our chips on him

I meant in the sense that I don't want his play to fall off the map next season. I would agree that Johnson's career has been much more impressive overall than Hammond.

And who is the 1A Goalie, then?

Crucify Edmonton for signing career backups to multiyear deals

Be excited to sign career backup to multiyear deals

Can we just assume that when a goalie plays well someone is going to make a thread about resigning him. And when one plays poorly, he'll probably be out of the league next year?

Part of the reason for the thread is this is the first Johnson has played since he's been eligible to extend. He won tonight, but has been consistently very good all year.
