Who is this teams most unsung forward and defenceman this year?
I'd like to get others' opinions on this. For me it's Stajan and Engelland.

Good choices. I could see Frolik as an unsung forward - the line he's on gets lots of praise, but he gets far less than Backlund and Tkachuk.

Stajan has been good but I wouldn't call him the most unsung forward. I think we could lose him and not really miss him that much.
Engelland to me is definitely the team's most unsung player.

I didn't mean unsung to indicate that he is irreplaceable or that we cannot survive without this player. I meant unsung to imply that these guys get relatively very little credit for the good seasons they have had to this point overall.

- Frolik
- Hamilton - think he's been better than he's getting credit for.
But to the OP, I like your picks. Engelland is constantly under-appreciated around here (although I don't get the impression he is by his team mates, coaches or the management) and while Stajan is overpaid, I think if we lost him we'd see a bigger impact to our results than many around here think.

Considering how talented he actually is and how forgotten he often seems to be, I'll say Versteeg is our most unsung forward. Stajan gets a lot of praise for doing stuff that doesn't show up on the scoresheet and generally being beloved. Versteeg helps the power play work.
The captain can't really be unsung, though the work he's done bringing Hamilton along into the Dougie we expected is terrific.
I'll say Engelland partly because he deserves it and partly because nobody else does.

I would vote
F - Backlund
D - Engelland
Would never have predicted the top line at the mid point of the season is Backlund, Frolik and Tkachuk.
Top player is Backlund

Norm!

Frolik just because of his unrelenting work ethic and his ability to do anything asked of him
Engellend see above, the guy is the Swiss Army Knife of his defense, makes the simple play and is a good physical presence.

Not even kidding. These guys do good work every night that goes unnoticed because they aren't perfect players or aren't fan favorites.

I like Engelland for what he is. But the simple play for him is too often to ring it around the boards to the opposition. It takes him multiple times to gain the puck (which he can do) and try and get it out. He has to be bailed out by a forward quite often. I like almost everything else he does. It's just his exits drive me crazy.

Yeah Wideman gets way too much hate around here. He was awful last year, and he still isn't with his contract but this year he's at least been a serviceable bottom pairing guy.

Powerplay Quarterback
|
F: Ferland
D: Engelland
Ferland has been a beast, I was really disappointed with him last year. He didn't really seem to bring the consistent effort last season, you can't say the same thing this season. As far as effort goes, he has been one of the most consistent on this team this season.
Engelland has been steady since the beginning of the year, even when the rest of the D was struggling, Engelland wasn't. He has stepped up and provided some much needed toughness and has been there to protect his teammates.

Both these guys have elevated everything about what they bring. I've become a big fan of both.

F: Hathaway. Not even joking when I say he's an impact player. Not in the sense that he'll go coast to coast or wow you with his shooting. But every time he's on the ice, he does something that makes the other team hate him. Impactful.
D: Engelland. While the top 3 took a while to get going ,he somewhat stabilized the back end and made it less crappy.

I go with Frolik and Wideman.
I am not seeing it with Ferland. Maybe he really is unsung.
