Default Leaked images of Pens practice jersey reveal possible Adidas Jersey redesign

From The Hockey News

Quote:
The NHL will be moving from Reebok jerseys to Adidas uniforms for the 2017-18 campaign, and a leaked jersey shows potential changes that would pull from the World Cup of Hockey designs.

They're practice jerseys, so clearly not what game jerseys will look like - but interesting to see the traditional Adidas piping.

Whats weird is that the practice jersey will be for sale (note the tags on the sleeve) with an Adidas logo yet the replicas won't have the Adidas logo and instead have the Fanatics logo. Weird.

I didn't read the title clearly before I saw the picture and thought that looks like a practice jersey! TRY AGAIN!!!

They look quite slimming.

It looks like a "pro weight" practice jersey (you can see the fight strap) versus a replica style jersey. I'm guessing the Fanatics license only applies to the replica jerseys?

For a practice jersey, I don't mind it at all.

I'd be pretty disappointed if the NHL allowed Adidas to force their corporate striping onto team jerseys. For practice jerseys its fine, but the game jerseys shouldn't have any Adidas inspired striping.

came to post this same thing.

This has potential to be terribad if Adidas goes all Adidas on the redesigns.

I agree. I'd hate to see classic jerseys changed to incorporate the Adidas stripes, but for a team like the Flames and their current jerseys, it really wouldn't make much of a difference. Might actually clean them up a bit.

I've held out buying a jersey for a few years now waiting for them to change the design, so if they tripled down on vertical striping for the sake of Adidas branding it will be annoying for sure.

I'll be amazed if they don't. Hoping to be pleasantly surprised though.

It didn't happen in other leagues and sports (NBA, CFL, NCAA football) -- you'd think if any league would be open to that kind of blatant corporate influence, it would be the CFL.

The fact that they were willing to give up the replica jersey branding to Fanatics suggests there isn't a real strong desire to "own" the NHL brand by plastering the three stripes on everything.

Yes. It would be great to not have three stripes down the side of a Habs jersey. What's your problem?

Well...its sort of Adidas' 'thing.'

And by 'thing' I mean 'brand.' I gather they take that kind of thing rather seriously.

And last I checked Adidas generates more than 4 times more revenue per annum than the entire NHL.

Its not like they're going in with a huge bargaining position.
