Default Let's Talk About Kodi

Alright, since I mentioned it in the Netflix thread, here it goes.

I installed Kodi on my phone and an old Android tablet, and have started to experiment with it. I have found the following video add-ons to be the most useful:

Sports :
Pro Sport

Movies and Tv:
Phoenix
1 Channel
Icefilms
iStream

The best content and tv channels, in my opinion are on Phonenix.

There tons of unreliable content out there, and have found that un-installing an add-on is not so easy.

Also, I have not found a way to cast the content via the chromecast.

I haven't found a way to cast just the Kodi window, but if you follow the instructions below, you can cast your entire desktop (including Kodi audio/video) to Chromecast.

You can cast Kodi.
I believe you can easily with Yatse remote, but I never have tried. I know you can by adding playercorefactory.xml file (easy) and using localcast app. This casts full time though. Must change XML file to not cast and play on phone/tablet.

Only addon I ever use is Exodus, for everything but sports. Use in conjunction with trakt.tv addon/online acvount and it syncs what you watch over all Kodi devices linked to trakt account.

Vidtime or Castaway for sports are really great. I also have an NHL.tv subscription and the addon is very good in Kodi.

Have to tread very carefully with this discussion. I believe rules allow us to talk about Kodi in general terms, as it is just a media center, but none of the specifics of anything regarding non legitimate sources or content.

Exodus always does for anything new. Sometimes 1080 - but I don't have luck streaming without buffering, several 720p sources that always work for me (by removing a couple providers that don't). . Haven't watched anything in SD for a while now.
Easily best addon yet.

Of the Add ons I tried, Stream All The Sources is easily the best for movies and tv since Genesis stopped being supported.

Try it.

SALTS does. Although they don't appear at the top of the streams list like they did in Genesis so you have to scroll through the list to find the HD ones.

As you might guess from the name, Exodus is the followup to genesis from same creator, so to speak lol. Way better than SALTS, imo - except no library support. Try it

Ah well then I know what I'm installing this weekend.

What do you mean by Library support? Like browsing by lists?

Subscriptions basically. Salts (with trakt) when setup - which takes a bit of doing, but isn't hard, is real nice. Subscribe to a TV show, and it will automatically add it when a new episode comes out. Genesis did this too, without trakt, which was good, but was so much work to maintain by author of addon, that he quit. That's why Exodus doesn't include library support.

Trakt is excellent though. We have Kodi on 5 devices, and watch TV on all of them from time to time. Watch a show on one, and trakt marks it as watched on all devices. Also, in Exodus, anything you have ever watched (with trakt support), will keep track of all the next episodes up next, including both older series you are watching, as well as new episodes when they come available. So while not quite as nice as subscriptions (certain skins display new library content very nicely) , every bit as effective.
For example, I had forgot Banshee was starting again, until the new season episode 1 showed up in my to watch list last week.

Am I missing something with exodus? I downloaded it when it first came out and I couldn't search for any new(ish) shows. Seemed to be older shows at that time?

Also anyone who hasn't yet, should download the mobdro app for android. Literally the best app I've found. Will get near perfect streams from most tv stations across the globe. Chromecast support too!

EDIT: never mind, just booted Exodus up again and must have had major updates...looks awesome!

Maybe on first release it was lacking, but is excellent now.

BTW, here is link to casting KODI to chromecast.

I tried it with Yatse remote app tonight. It does not work with any addons I tried. Chromecast doesn't like those streams.

I use Kodi on a phone and cast with no issues, works quite well. I use local cast with the playercore file in the proper location.

IOS with jailbreak, yes. Without jailbreak, yes also, but pretty complicated even with the tutorials online.

Actually, it's now very easy to cast anything directly to chromecast :

1. Open Google Cast on phone/tablet
2. Open menu and select 'Cast screen/audio option' and connect to chromecast. Your device desktop is now mirrored/cast.
3. Open Kodi and watch.

It is that easy.

Worked good for me this morning. Scaling not perfect, but ok.
Obviously only can use it with a dedicated device, but with a old phone or a tablet looks like is good

Is this only done with android devices?

I have Kodi and chrome cast and I've been trying to watch Kodi on my TV but having trouble.
