I agree with you about Gio's regularly missing the net. I was so excited when he appeared to score a few games ago only to have it disallowed due to being offside. Hamilton is the only member of our D to regularly hit the net.

The game story didn't seem to be the right venue for optimism in a 4-1 loss, but I liked a lot of things about last night's game.

You can't get too excited about a team pushing when they're down, because it's expected. But the Flames really transition and attack in a much more dangerous manner compared to previous seasons. Last night was about mistakes again, not about system or talent. The Jackets are a good team and they could have won even if Calgary was air tight, but the individual mistakes in the past two games have crept back in and has kept them from either winning or at least gaining a point or two.

Still like the product overall.

I don't agree with this assessment, I thought the BJs were by far the better team all night. Even in the third when the flames were pushing, they really weren't able to generate any actual chances.

The only silver lining for me is that the powerplay looks great right now. Versteeg has been a great addition. Didn't know he was such a fantastic playmaker.

I don't think it's Johnny himself leaking the chances, but the flames are playing a less "winning" and more of trading chances kind of game.

In general, I agree with you but there were elements of disorganization and panic in their game. Johnny was playing less of a team game perhaps because he was less trusting in his colleagues to get 'er done.

A lot of handwringing about why they've looked so terrible the last two games.

But there have been a boat load of goals against the last two games from shots from the point. Tips, shots of legs, seeing eye shots off the post etc that Johnson hasn't had much chance on. Sitting down nearer to ice level last night, you see how very little room there is for point shots to get through. So when they do, they're pin point precise and/or lucky....however;

1)I think the Flames forwards are that half step too far back to give the TB/CBJ defenceman that every half second to get more on the shot.

2)The vaunted "most block shots in the league" title has gone away this year. Partly do to Russel gone sure, but in general the fowards aren't committing as much to that sacrifice as Hartley commanded them to do.

3)Our smallish and/or docile defenceman also aren't clearing the front of the net to prevent screen or tips, or, as mentioned above, not as committed to be blocking shots and being in the way.

In comparison, the big CBJ defenceman blocked a lot of Flames shots, especially on those PP's, and the forwards up high were getting a but more push on the Flames defencemen to force either a pass, or, less of a good shot on net.
