O'Neal, who hopes to be a police chief or county sheriff one day, was already being fitted for his Miami Beach police uniform before he helped the police out.
"For this incident I don't want to be credited as an individual who does police work," O'Neal said in a statement. "I want to be credited as a Miami Beach police officer.''

Geez, what a superhero.
I rode my bike today. I don't want to be credited as an individual who rode his bike, I want to be credited as an Olympic cyclist.

Since he was in the process of becoming a Miami Beach Reserve Officer I think it's very team oriented that he wants to be thought of in that manner. Why is that a bad thing?
Anyone in the process of becoming an Olympic Cyclist?

It's not a bad thing since it's just pointless ego-driven blather (which admittedly is really surprising from Shaq) but it's really lame.
He's "in the process" of becoming a reserve cop? Do you know what that even means? I don't, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't mean he's close to becoming a real cop in Miami Beach.
He's not a police officer. He didn't do police work here. He did whatever any normal person would do when they see a crime like this, which is report it to the police, and he let them handle it. Big deal.
I shouldn't be surprised though. It is coming from a guy who can dunk a basketball and has a BA and after all that he compares himself to Aristotle.

I remember Rome talking about Shaq's aspirations to be a cop after he's done playing ball. The funny part was that Shaq said he wanted to be an undercover cop. Haha... Rome fans don't need me to begin the monologue that follows a notion like that.
Shaq. Undercover.

Shaq completed the Police Academy training in LA during one off-season - he is actually quite serious in becoming a cop once his playing days are done.

Here's the article where Shaq mentioned going undercover. link
And here's the quote:
Quote:
"I put a lot into it, and when I am done playing, I plan on going undercover and then being the sheriff or chief of police somewhere, either Miami or Orlando, I don't know yet,"

You guys realize he is now officially a reserve PO in Miami, right? This isn't just a game Shaq is playing, he is an actual cop. I don't get some of the comments you guys made in this thread.

No kidding, its obvious he's not doing it for the money. I think its pretty cool that there is a guy who wants to stop crime and set a good example for kids. Its better then most athletes who are on the other end of the handcuffs.
