Default Max Domi placed on IR, with upper-body injury (HNIC: likely out 6 weeks)

Dave Vest @daves4yotes

Update: #Coyotes forward @max_domi has been placed on IR and is considered "week-to-week" with an upper-body injury.

Here is the fight w/ Hathaway that caused it: https://streamable.com/o946

Did they play last night, or was this from Thursday?
I didn't watch the game, so I don't know if someone crushed him in that win.

Poor kid. That tilt with Kesler may have made him think he could fight like his dad.

Considering Domi started that fight by targeting Hathaway with a dirty play after Hathaway made a clean and slightly hard check on him, I'd say Domi got what he deserved. Hathaway is lucky he wasn't injured by Domi's cheap shot.

Domi is lucky the linesmen jumped in so quick or he would have eaten 3 or 4 more hard shots.

Such a great clip. We get to see hathaway win a good rumble AND then a nice flashback of Kesler getting dummied. Love it.

Looks like Hathaway gave Domi a great shiner as well. Good scrap.

I originally had thought maybe Hathaway closed his eye, so he would not be back that night. Wonder what the actual injury is?

To actually go on ir he must either have a bad concussion or a broken orbital bone or cheekbone. Only other thing I can think of in that area would be damage to his eye which didnt seem to be the case.

I hate fights after clean hits. But that wasn't a good hit on Hathaway and Domi paid the price. Good fight.

Hathaway is built like a tank. Domi is one tough kid as well and Hathaway easily handled him.

Was a bit surprised as if you've ever seen Hathaway's AHL fights he is not a good fighter. But Domi just opens up and this was bound to happen to him eventually. Reminded me of an old Eric Nystrom fight, just all offence and no technique.

Off-topic, but watching the Domi-Kesler one-punch fight right after the Domi-Hathaway fight reminded me again how surprisingly weak Kesler is for a big-size NHL-er that constantly plays an agitating/irritating role every game. I mean, these kind of players can usually stand their ground pretty well, when challenged (i.e. Ott, Avery, Marchand, Clutterbuck etc.)

As much as I mildly enjoyed the Domi / Kesler fight due to my dislike for Kesler, if looking at that fight and the Hathaway fight, hard not to see in both instances Domi is trying very hard in both fights to gain a massive upper hand by starting to throw punches before his opponent is even ready. Some might say that's just smart tactic in a fight to land the first punch, but it doesn't fly with me for NHL scraps. Pretty cowardly IMO, especially when you are the aggressor. Square off and then try to land the first shot.

Totoo used to do the same thing, drove me nuts. Glad it didn't work with Hathaway.
