Rome is a new HBO series about well... Rome.
The first episode was pretty good, although it's not a "bowl you over" kind of show like Band of Brothers, or The Sopranos (at least, not yet). Nevertheless, it was good and left me wanting more. Did anyone else see it?

Yeah I saw it and liked it, though I wasn't as impressed as I have been with other HBO series, like Six Feet Under or Deadwood.
Looks good though, and I will keep watching.

Yeah, Deadwood is Gold.
I bet that this will one pick up steam and become comparable to those shows.

I wasn't overly impressed with the first episode ... seemed too "TV-series" rather than "mini-series" for my tastes. But I'm not even sure if it's a mini-series, or a TV series. I hope it picks up ... it looks really neat, and that ancient Rome stuff is cool.
Band of Brothers was incredible, though ... (but David Schwimmer couldn't really pull off the hardass general)

Strongly disagree.
He did a fantastic job of portraying the real Herbert M. Sopel.

Personally I love that show.
I hate how Move Central can show stuff like that - I assumed thier CRTC filings were restricted to movies only. I guess not.

Agreed, soul. I wanted to go through the screen and strangle Ross. He did an amazing job in that role.

Regarding RomeL
HBO turned into a soft core porn channel so gradually that nobody even noticed...

Bah.
Sex happens. They graphically depict the battle in Rome, why not the sex? If everyone just chilled the fata out about sex and nudity in North America we'd all be a lot happier.
