NHL enacts John Scott All Star voting rule
http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...ting/94226632/
Quote:
The league on Monday announced new fan voting rules that disqualify players from being named All-Star captains if they're injured or sent to the American Hockey League. Scott, a journeyman enforcer, was voted in by fans last year when he was with the Arizona Coyotes and still served as the Pacific Division captain despite being traded to the Montreal Canadiens and demoted to the AHL.

Good.
The All-Star game should be for players that are good at hockey.

The NHL should just altogether abandon fan voting and just issue each team 1 or 2 placements.
The team then has an internal vote who they want to send to represent them at the ASG.
Eliminates fan trolling altogether.

One of the best stories to ever come out of an ASG - one that is more likely to stick in people's brains longer and more prominently than most - and the NHL have prevented anything happening like that ever again. Props guys!

Doesn't quite eliminate it. Now they will target players that will not be sent down because of NMC. My vote goes to Wideman.

That's what the Olympics and World Cup is for.
The All-Star game is a fun side-game meant for the fans and nothing more.

John Scott was the All-Star MVP of what was a pretty awesome weekend. This is so petty and bitchy, I hate it. Nobody on the ice had a problem with it, the fans seemed to give Scott the loudest cheer of any non-Nashville player, and they named him MVP.
What exactly is the harm of giving the people what they want? Everyone who's up in arms about John Scott's participation thinks the All-Star game is a joke anyway. Do they really need the joke to be on their own terms?
Funsuckers indeed.

John Scott was one of the most epic underdog hockey stories I can remember since I've started watching hockey, probably because of all the coverage for it. Sure there's Mario coming back after cancer, Tim Thomas who went from a career AHLer to the best player in the world, but John Scott went from a troll-created pathetic story to the most rallied player at the All-Star game, and it was just for one day, and he managed it despite the league doing everything in its power to not only prevent him from going, but also spending years of game changing policies to put guys like that out of the league (ie, enforcers).
It felt good cheering for Scott and it felt good when he didn't let you down at the All-Star game. Maybe it's because I like old school hockey or maybe it's because I haven't like the decision makers at the league office, but whatever it is, John Scott was my hero for one day.

The NHL once again manages to offend its fans (essentially by calling all of them idiots for voting in John Scott).
Maybe fans should vote with their wallets against the NHL and Gary. Fat chance it will happen because people are too hero-worshipping.
But wouldn't it be nice if they gave a night of games and no one attended? Might actually get some attention that way.

If it happened every year it wouldn't be a big story
besides, NHL players taking it easy on a guy to ensure he did well wasn't my idea of entertainment.

He made the NHL. Even to play at the AHL level, one must be pretty damn good at hockey.

All the players liked John Scott and supported him despite what he was - a fighter with the worse hockey skill than all those other players who were at that game. He beats up players and plays maybe 4 minutes of hockey, yet they genuinely sacrificed their own All-Star glory for him.
Maybe your not entertained by things other than action, but for those of us who enjoy the subtleties, emotion, drama and spirit, it was highly entertaining. And all those Nashville, non-traditional hockey market fans, were legitimately entertained too, evident by the insane cheering he got.

So we're just going to have to vote for someone with a NMC this time.
