Best Bar To Watch The Game At
Greeting Fellow CP'ers,
My buddy and I are on the hunt for the best places in Calgary to watch a game.
We're looking for a bar that has the game on a big screen that has good viewing angles where we won't have to stand and is easy to see (TV or projector), and also has the game audio turned on in the bar, and lough enough to hear it (not drowned out by music). A place in the downtown area would be preferable. Good food and cheap wings and beer are a plus.
Can you recommend anywhere for us to try?

Actually Drum and Monkey has a huge screen for the game, and plays the sound, get there kinda early and it won't be too bad.

Melrose has lots of TV's with multiple games. Get one of the side booths/tables along the far wall.

FATS on 5th Ave and 10th St NW has lots of screens and is only about a block away from the Sunnyside C-Train station.
It's kind of small though.

My hidden little gem is the Bear and Kilt on Steven Ave. Easy to walk by. Its a chill quiet little scene down a stairwell. The usually have a projector screen for games, but they also have plenty of big screens that you can basically have to yourself. Couple pool tables, and they poor a damn good Guinness.
If you are looking for a loud rowdy scene don't go here, chances are there will be about 10-15 people there max.

I usually prefer small dive bars to watch hockey games. Bigger places like Flames Central, Melrose or Schanks are kind of more about "being there" than the hockey.
Mugs and The Blind Monk are the places I end up. Small, lots of tvs, sound is on and people are there to watch the game.

If you want a small dive, big screen, sound playing check out schooners in the Patterson/Coach Hill area.

Kensington area:
FATS has the best "pub food", especially the pizza. Sometimes too many Canuck fans.Sound will be on. If the NFL is on, it supercedes the Flames. New! - The Bev Drinking Game
Tipperary's has great wing menu. Usually has door prizes during Flames games. Children are allowed in the restaurant.Sound will be on.
Regal Beagle sucks.
Yardhouse has no idea if the Flames are even playing.

Bumping this thread to solicit any suggestions or recommendations for the US Thanksgiving NFL schedule of games this week. Downtown Calgary for preferred locations.
Flames Central will have the games on and will have a special menu but it was nothing spectacular last year and they don't give away any prizes etc.

I thought this was in response to the discussion about the D&M in the other thread.

I know this is not downtown, but I would consider the shark club - as long as you and your crew are ok being served drinks by comely lasses in tight fitting clothes

^God forbid...
It's actually kind of tough to find a good bar to watch the game in with sound in the inner city, honestly. Somewhere comfortable, decent food, good beer selection and a good view from most of the seats. Why is this a rare commodity downtown?

Craft is probably a good bet. I used to work there and they're all about football on the big screens, also the food is really good.
/I haven't been there in 5 years so this info may be out of date
