Seems like a a 60cm Tsunami has hit.

From Reddit:
07:05 The estimated tsunami height is expected to be 3m, but could be higher. A 60 cm tsunami has reached the shore but more is expected. The tide level keeps changing along the coasts so people should be wary for higher coming waves.

07:12 A second tsunami observed 20km off coast of Ibaraki region, just north of Tokyo

07:20 Reports that the cooling system at the Fukushima power plant has failed, not sure what this means for the power plant, more details will hopefully come soon.
I will continue editing this post with more info.

It's like 7 am there though. That's a rude wake up call.

07:32 There is no immediate danger at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, where the system that supplies the cooling water for the 3rd reactor has stopped. There is enough water to cool the reactor for a while.

07:35 The 2nd and 3rd wave of the tsunami are likely to be higher according to the news announcers at NHK

damn ocean, you scary

It seems to be a lot of big waves though from this feed, and not a giant surge. Granted, there is way too much #### all over the screen.

Nature's alarm clock today. A 6 am house shaking, great way to start your day! haha

Hopefully the waves stay relatively small and there's no damage up North.

08:03 The Fukushima 3rd reactor cooling system has successfully been restarted, and TEPCO who own the plant will investigate further what happened and make sure everything is OK.

I don't know a lot about Tsunami's but they're posting 30 cm's that doesn't seem very big.

That's only like 12 inches of water.

No, 30cm isn't very high. The thing to remember is that it isn't like a single small wave hitting the shore. These things can be a kilometer or so long and that's a lot of volume. I don't expect any major damage from this one though, as Japan is generally very well prepared for quakes and tsunamis.

Just don't go surfing today.

13-15 meters, the energy release of the 2011 earthquake was also several hundred times greater.

Yea, was just reading about it. Some areas appear to have seen waves up to 130 feet. So a 15ft tsunami is not much in comparison (although still substantial).

impact was heard 50 miles (80 km) away,[6] and the sudden displacement of water resulted in a megatsunami that destroyed vegetation up to 1,722 feet (525 m) above the height of the bay and a wave that traveled across the bay with a crest reported by witnesses to be on the order of 98 feet (30 m) in height
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1958_L...ay_megatsunami

It destroy vegetation that high, but was not that high itself. The volume of displaced water just went up that high
