Default Practice Notes Jan 18th

Roger Millions ‏@RogMillions 2m2 minutes ago
Brian Elliott hurt in #Flames practice. Looks to be wrist. Heading back to net in obvious pain.

Roger Millions ‏@RogMillions 56s56 seconds ago
@RogMillions good news is he continues to practice.

#Flames practice underway this morning. Garnet Hathaway (upper body) still absent. Everyone else accounted for.

Pat Steinberg ‏@Fan960Steinberg 30m30 minutes ago
Lines/pairings the same as they were last night. Ferland the extra forward, Kulak the extra D. #Flames

Hope Moose is alright and its just a stinger.

If Elliott is out, who gets called up? Parsons or Gillies?

Parsons can't be called up, he plays in the OHL.

You're thinking of David Rittich.

No other reporter mentioning Elliott being hurt. Just Roger.

Also being suggested that Subban will be back tomorrow. I know this isn't true but it seems like a lot of injured players make their return against Calgary.

Edit: Now being reported that Subban won't be in. Guess we'll see.

I think Hathaway is done for awhile. The face he was making and the position of his shoulder brought back some memories for me.

Dislocation, maybe surgery. Huge loss for the flames this year.

Wes Gilbertson suggested the Flames think its not a long term injury, but I was thinking the same thing as you when he left the ice.

Sorry I can't embed but the quote is

"The way I understand it, RW Garnet Hathaway will be 'day to day' for several days but #Flames don't believe injury is serious."

Sounds like it could be a shoulder contusion. Enough to keep him out for a few days while he ices it, but not severe enough to warrant any concern. With the style that he plays, I don't think you want Hathaway in until that shoulder is 100%.

Sorry I know I'll get piled on here, but it's not a huge loss. It's not going to make any difference. He's a 4th liner and Hamilton is more effective IMO anyways

I dunno... I mean, there's no point splitting hairs over a 4th liner, but I personally love what Hathaway brings to the lineup.

Even discounting the whole "rabbit's foot" factor, Freddie might be a better player overall but the only one on Hathaway's "pest" level is Tkachuk. And we need players like that, especially with our PP on the hot side now.

From the recent Tkachuk article on Flames from 80 Feet:
Quote:
Minor Penalties Drawn Per 60 (min of 20 games):

1. Matthew Tkachuk CGY, 2.93
2. Garnet Hathaway CGY, 2.71

I think Hathaway has been one of the most effective 4th liners in recent memory. He's afraid of nothing.

I hate this narrative. He's drawn 5 penalties and taken 10. That's not helpful

Incorrect. Was recently discussed on a broadcast. Teach us was, a couple games ago, 22/23 for drawn/taken. So he's right in the middle. That will trend in the Flames favour as he matures.

I'm not sure where your numbers are from, but he's taken 10 minors, and drawn 5 (corsica.com). If he's taken 23 penalties he's taken the 5th most in the league

He plays with urgency and on this team this season that's in short supply.

I don't have outrageous expectations for this season but i think having players with work ethic is important, even if you're going to lose anyway.

Who are you talking about, Tkachuk? If so on the broadcast they said he has drawn the most penalties in the league.

That's great, but it doesn't affect results too much. Even if you believe the unsupported narrative, it's still not a "huge loss". At least Hamilton pushes the puck kind of in the right direction

I agree with you. I still think it's a huge, significant, bigly, loss because the flames don't have a ton of those guys in the organization.

Also, big loss for my entertainment.
