Icon42 Elliott and Brouwer Tribute Vid

So heard Elliott's comment in the post-game about how the Blues put up a tribute video to him (and apparently Brouwer).
Here it is, not sure how to embed this format.

Really enjoyed that overhead shot of Backlund getting several whacks from point blank range and Elliott battling through.

That was pretty classy by the Blues to do that. Love it. Loved it even more that Elliott was awesome last night too. One day I hope to see a highlights package from AC featuring Elliott doing those kinds of things regularly for us.

This may be unpopular but I find these tribute videos lame.
I want more hate back in sports.
Kris Russel signs with the Oilers - no way does he get a tribute video until he retires.
Too much love for ex players.
Put them on the jumbotron at the first whistle, let the crowd clap and be done with it. Nothing more is required.
Frick - 45 minute pre-game ceremonies and tributes to ex players that signed eslewhere? Lame.

Disagree. Iggy's first return to the dome was an unbelievable moment. It brings a more personal human element to an otherwise cutthroat business.

There are exceptions of course. Iggy would be one of them.

Disagree. People cheer for the team. But the team is composed of the players. It's the players that fans, kids and young hockey players are drawn to. Nothing wrong with having a quick 45 second tribute to players who were a big part of the team.

Imagine if the Flames did nothing for when Iggy returned. Would you feel the same? Not saying Brouwer and Elliot were as important as Iginla was. But it's classy to do. Save the hate for between the whistles.

Hrdina makes a point. Iggy the obvious exception, but otherwise no tribute until they retire IMO.

A 1 minute video to recognize two separate players is fine. It's hard for a one minute video to be overly excessive for anything, really.

That was a little different situation with Iginla, there is a significant difference in paying tribute to a guy that was the face of your franchise for over a decade and a guy who was a mediocre middle pairing defenseman for 3 years.

Agreed. kris russell came into this discussion as a straw man, but I think it's legit that the Blues gave a tribute to Elliott who was awesome for them for years. Let the team decide what qualifies as an "exception".

I was surprised to hear of a tribute for both players. Brouwer was on the team for one season, did they just include him in the tribute so he wouldn't feel sad that they did one for Elliott and not him?

Elliott was with the team for 5 seasons, which can be a long time in pro sports, but he was never their #1 goalie. He always split duties with Allen or Halak (or both). Maybe if he was with the team for a lot longer I would understand.

Tributes should be for the exceptional players. Players who were the heart and soul of the team and/or spent an extraordinary amount of time with the team. Jarome Iginla fits the bill on both accounts. The Oilers probably did something for Ryan Smyth when he first left the team. Guys like that, I can totally see a tribute. Give the fans a chance to show their appreciation for those former players.

I don't know, were Elliott and Brouwer that exceptional in the community?

This is the weird part for me. Can you imagine the Flames doing a tribute video to Jonas Hiller? And he was here for two years.

I probably won't either. At least not until a Kipper video, but that just seems so daunting.

Especially since I don't have much footage from his first few seasons outside of the 2004 run.

Wow. Browers game 7 OT goal against Chicago must have been quite the moment for him.
