When do we lock in a goaltender for next year?
Elliott hasn't been great so far. But if Treliving still has the same conviction in his ability to stabilize the net and he believes this dip is temporary, now is the time for BT to stick his neck out and sign Elliott for another year or two at maybe a lower rate than he could get in 2017. With expansion draft and waning demand for goalies, Elliott might just take a 3mmx2 year contract.
Or......take chances and see if Bishop or fleury comes available?

Yep. Wait until closer to the expansion draft. See who wants to move what.

Will Elliott re-sign with the flames? If they keep up this play we may be looking for two new goaltenders in the summer.

no goal tenders except named Price would make any difference based on how were playing in front of our goaltenders, not on them. Imagine if we had last years goal tenders playing this year

I'd like to wait. I still think Elliott can be the answer but we need to see a bit more from the whole team before we can make that call. Id rather be certain than gamble on signing low. Plus with the expansion draft who knows what else comes along

I would think they should extend Johnson for another year or two. Relatively cheap insurance policy. Good enough, in my opinion, to run as a short term starter but cheap enough to trade (and quite valuable to a team with injuries) if we lock down a true no 1 and feel comfortable in a young guy running backup.

Its a little premature to say, but I would think come January a decision will have to be made. Both goalies are up next year contract-wise, and the expansion draft is looming.
My guess is that one - if not both goalies - are in different homes by this time next year.

Ramo and Johnson will do just fine for this team. Hiller - he's over the hill. Elliot does look a lot like Hiller in net the way he plays. So, regardless of who you bring in and if the team in front plays like crap, the goalies are gonna look like crap. So, why even sign a high end goalie long term until the team is close to being a contender? Heck even Budaj had a shutout against the Flames and he was brought up from the farm team!

Who needs goalies next year?
Dallas - those goalies are terribad but have one year more
Islanders - not sure what is happening but if halak goes then he adds to supply
Carolina - they signed ward so they don't need one i guess?!
Philly - i think they sign one of the ones they have letting go a 1b to add to the supply
Calgary - we need one
Vegas - need one (or two if they can grab a cheap starter and flip him at deadline)
Colorado - save money if they ditch Varlamov and go with Pickard who appears ready
So it looks like 2...maybe 3 spots to be filled by the following?
Neuvirth
Elliott
Fleury
Bishop
Varlamov maybe via trade at ~$6m cap?
Halak
If I'm Elliott and he is staring at bad numbers in a contract year, then i'm signing whatever is put in front of me.

at this stage, the flames should not be locking in on anything. In fact, the way the season is playing out, their focus may be on who they should actually 'unlock' from.

Probably how he has to play out of position and dive at prime scoring chances because of defensive breakdowns.
Make no mistake, Hiller was bad last year, but he (like Ramo & Ortio) was hung out to on a lot of nights.

No rush right now. Elliot could get a decent return at the trade deadline, if the Flames are fully out of the playoff picture.

When we can find one who can make the occasional save?

There will be enough available that I'm not that worried.
If the rest of the team continues to look as bad as it does now, I think goaltending will be the least of their concerns.

The start of this season may not be the start we wanted but I'd like to see both goalie's back next year with hopefully a similar lineup than what we have now. Morale may not be at its all time high right now but hopefully the next season year treats them well.
I'd hate to see a team go through a different goalie each year or every other year as you can't really build off the confidence to play around them. We definitely got spoiled by Kipper.
