Amazing Race Canada 4 : Premieres June 28
Rather than burying the thread in the Contests forum that no one goes to, I thought I'd try putting the thread in here this time around to see if it generates more discussion.
http://theamazingracecanada.ctv.ca/
CTV has announced that the fourth season of the Amazing Race Canada will premiere on Tuesday, June 28 at 8:00pm. It looks like this year there will only be 10 teams. This means that in four seasons, they've never had the same number of teams in any race (Season 1 had 9 teams; 2 had 11, and 3 had 12). I don't know if that means we'll see more non-elimination legs or just fewer episodes.
Some reported destinations (from Wikipedia) include: Yellowknife, NWT; Prince Rupert, BC; and Kingston, ON.
A few of the sponsorships have changed from past seasons, which means that some of the prizes have also changed. Air Canada and Petro-Canada are no longer sponsors, so the free flights for a year and free gas for life prizes are gone. Hotels.com is a new sponsor, and they are providing a trip around the world to the winning team. Chevrolet is back again as a sponsor, but this time, the winning team will get their choice of any Chevrolet vehicle the teams drive during the race.
The winning team will also take home $250,000, as in the past.
Mentos is back as a sponsor, so expect another odd challenge involving Mentos in some way. MEC is also on board as a new sponsor, so all the teams should have nice backpacks. There will probably also be some challenges that require extensive use of MEC products. I don't know if DQ is back as a sponsor. If they're not, I'll miss the random "make a Blizzard/decorate an ice cream cake/identify the Julius flavour" challenges of the past.
From what I remember, there has been a lack of teams from Alberta in past seasons. That changes this year, with three teams from Alberta. There's a First Nations father/daughter team from the Enoch Cree Nation by Edmonton; a team of twin sisters from Edmonton; and the first legally-blind Amazing Race contestant and his wife from Lethbridge.
If you're interested in doing a draft of the teams to give yourself a rooting interest in the show, indicate your interest below. Otherwise, we can just discuss the show as it air.

Very surprisingly to me, this has become my favourite TV show of the summer over the last couple years.
Looking forward to it

I'd be in on the draft if it was ready before Saturday. After that I will probably be in and out of internet range.

Here are the teams...
Joel & Ashley (Enoch Cree Nation, AB) -- She's the reigning Mrs Universe (whatever that is).
Anthony & Brandon (Windsor, ON) -- Best friends.
Rita & Yvette (Edmonton, AB) -- Twin sisters, born in Montreal by raised in Edmonton. Raised by a single mother with 6 daughters.
Steph & Kristen (Toronto, ON) -- Sorry fellas, they're taken ... By each other.
Julie & Lowell (Lethbridge, AB) -- Southern Alberta represent. He's the first legally-blind contestant in Amazing Race history (he has some limited vision during the day, with no peripheral or night vision).
Anne & Tanya (Toronto, ON) -- Best friends, single mothers. Based on the photo, I can't tell if Anne is really small or if Tanya is really big.
Stéphane & Antoine (Montréal, QC) -- Father and Son.
Kelly & Kate (Toronto, ON) -- Friends and business partners. Both immigrated from China when they were 11 years-old.
Jillian & Emmett (New Glascow/Gore, NS) -- Recently broken up former Big Brother Canada contestants. You may remember them from Season 1 of Big Brother Canada... but, since it was Season 1 of Big Brother Canada, you probably have never seen either of them before in your life.
Frankie & Amy (Aldergrove, BC) -- Mother and Daughter. Former teen mom Frankie is only 16 years older than her daughter.
It looks like they didn't cast a very wide net this year, with three teams from Alberta and four from Ontario.

Air Canada has direct flights from Toronto to Panama City so hopefully they come down here for an out of country leg.
Ooops just saw Air Canada is no longer a sponsor. Nevermind.

Interesting...13 girls and 7 guys...5 all girls teams and 2 all guys.
Jeez, after a quick skim I'm not sure I'd want to cheer for any of them...Tough to tell until you see them in action.

No Air Canada sponsor. Does that mean it will be more like the American version, where they can try to get different flights, or will it revert back to Season one format where they didn't leave the country? I hope not. The first season was kind of fun, staying in Canada, but I think I would get bored with the show fast if they continued to do that.

Interesting, didn't hear about that.
They did all repel off of the Calgary Tower.
I'm guessing location spoilers are off limits but lets just say they do leave the country more than once.

Okay, so Fuzz and Otto-matic have both said they're in for a draft. Others have posted in the thread but haven't specifically said yes or no to a draft. So, I just want to clarify who's interested in doing a pool.
Like in the past, we'll do two rounds of picks, one 1-10 and one reverse from 10-1. You pick one team in each round so everyone has two teams to cheer for.
If we have at least 6 people to participate by Thursday, I'll organize it and we can do the picks on the weekend before the race starts on Tuesday.
If you're in for the draft, please post "In" or something similar to let me know.

Okay, we got 6 people by Thursday, so let's do a draft. I threw everyone's names through an online randomizer, and this is what it came up with... - EldrickOnIce
- getbak
- Superflyer
- Fuzz
- csnarpy
- Otto-matic
There's still 4 open spots, so anyone else can join, you'll just be added to the bottom of the list (which means you'll get an earlier pick in the second round).
After you make your pick, send a PM to the next person on the list to let them know they're on the clock.
