Default NHL kills Flames iOS App
I just updated my Calgary Flames app to version 17.0.0 and this is what is now the launch screen.




Great job NHL. What an idiotic decision to put all the teams apps under the same roof.

Happened to me as well. I tried turning my iPad off to stop it happening.

Didn't work.

No need to get upset. Download the NHL team and set your favourite team to the Flames.

It's functionally the exact same. If not better.

It will open up as basically the Flames app, with more options.

Yeah, I think you have the exact same App within the NHL one after you set Calgary to your favourite.

It was probably a logistic thing, where having 1 App to manage and update made more sense than 31.

Considering all the team websites were changed to look like NHL.com, this is hardly a surprise.

After looking around the new app a bit I don't hate it. Although I generally use the Score app for most of my sports related news.

The point that annoys me is that I have to download an app which I previously deleted because it was crap for the same content, with a different UI and having centre ice trying to be sold to me at every turn.

It's just a real bone head move by the NHL, as it's pretty much just asking people to go to the TSN or Sportsnet app.

Is it necessary to be insulting?

I listed my issues with the change, (I don't want to re-download an app I didn't like and I don't want to be bombarded with centre ice and Rogers ads). I think they're legitimate annoyances considering the previous app was quite popular.

Sorry if you thought it was insulting. I just think it's weird.

It's almost the exact same experience so I don't understand the gripe, and I wasn't pointing that out to insult you, I was pointing it out so that anyone who also needs to download the new app doesn't think it's as bad as you say.

I have the NHL app, formerly had the Flames app, and I think it's great.

I think I must have missed the insult.

I agree with you on the NHL app being terrible.

I Never used the Flames app much at all, in fact I think I only still have it on my phone because I like to see the logo. I still use the trustworthy score app for all my sports needs.

Have both but never used the Flames one. Personally I prefer the NHL one which I'm already familiar with since it's an exact clone of the MLB one I use.

Honestly. I gave up on the flames app ages ago. It sucks. TheScore is so good IMHO, that it's the only sports app I ever need or use. Right down to player tracking.
