So far nothing earth shattering.
On Monahan and Gaudreau:
- says he won't get into much detail but was asked a question regarding wanting a long term deal and he said obviously that's what the Flames want but it has to work for the team and the player.
On Elliot:
Talked about his character and his save percentage over the last few years
Asked who Flame fans should be excited about in the farm system and mentioned Jankowski, Freddie Hamilton, Kulak, and Wotherspoon.
Troy Brouwer is now talking.

Monahan & Gaudreau Contracts
- Uniqueness to both of them, coming out of ELC's, and trying to find a way that works for all sides.
- Each contract is unique and goes through its own process and timeline.
- Will get something done, and know's something will get done sooner than later.
- Look at the two players as pillars moving forward with long-term contracts.
- Don't play for a while, talks are happening everyday.
Coaching
- Extensive search, and something that stood out with Gulutzan was relating with young players, communication, connection.
- People who played with him in the past had a strong connection with him. (player & coach)
- Glen is a smart, progressive, tactical structural coach. Being able to push player. Real strong asset, and communication is important.
NHL Draft
- You never know what happens at the draft.
- Prepare for everything, didn't expect Tkachuk to be at six, but once CBJ made their pick, there was a chance we'd get him.
- Matthew Tkachuk is a tremendous power-forward, thinks the game incredibly well, real inside game, edge.
- Tyler Parsons; long-road for goal-tending, expectation was not to draft a goalie early, but the scouts really liked him. Played on a really good team, but a big part of it. A bit underrated. Real competitive, not as big but really athletic, real battler with a wonderful personality.
Brian Elliott
- Explored all avenues, and as you started to zero in, Brian has been in a group with the best in save percentages.
- Well respected, hard worker.
- Go through the entire process, felt real strong that Brian would be a great fit that checks off all boxes.
- Big part of the playoff run for St.Louis.
Farm System
- Shinkaruk, Poirier, Pribyl, Jankowski (put a lot of work in the summer so far), Hathaway, F. Hamilton, names mentioned.
- Kulak, Wotherspoon, Kylington, Andersson (turn him pro this year), names mentioned
- Excited about the future.
Troy Brouwer
- Feels welcomed by the City of Calgary.
- Free Agency can be a stressful time, make decisions in a short time.
- Looked for the best fit.
- When looking for a team; is it a good place to play, good hockey, great city, good team with a chance to compete.
- Plans to live in Calgary after Hockey is done.
- Excited about playing Hockey in Canada; grew up watching the Canucks, now to play on a Canadian team.
- Young players was appealing with lots of different scenarios. Being a leader, great opportunity.
- Has been talked to about playing with Monahan and Gaudreau on the top line or with Bennett, Will play with good players.

I was pissed that I had to be out of town today because they were doing the Flames preview on the show today. Do you by any chance have a link to the audio of the rest of the hour?

Not necessarily. They both could be willing to sign 8 year deals but probably asking a lot more than the Flames are willing to pay.

I suspect it's term on Gaudreau. Sign a deal that takes you to UFA then go play for your dream in Philadelphia. Calgary wants a year or two of UFA status.
I'd bet dollars are agreed to, it's the term.
Willing to bet they compromise, or the Flames capitulate. Either way I'm happy, frankly.
This won't be a popular opinion, but, just my opinion.

I think people are way to focused on a precieved desire of Gaudreau's to head east. I'm willing to wager this has a lot more to do with dollars when it comes to term than it does how quickly can I get home.
I willing to wager Gaudreau's camp feels he's just going to increase his value with every season that passes, and they are hesitant on a lengthy term because I don't think that's what they think will maximize Gaudreau's earnings over the long term.
Gaudreau is going to get an NTC, which gives him location control anyway. Whether he thinks he might want to head home in 5 years now right at this moment is kind of irrelevant, regardless of whether he signs an 8, 5,4 or 2 year deal. Gaudreau himself has no iidea what he'll want 5 years from now, and even if we sign him to an 8 year deal, he can always ask for a move if he decides he wants to be close to home, and if he does that, he will eventually get it.
While I agree it's probably mostly term holding this up, it's much more likely to do with Gaudreau's camp trying to figure out what's the best move to get the most money out of the next eight years. I doubt it's that focused on a hypothetical where Johnny MIGHT want want to play in 5 years.

Johnny grew up dreaming for playing for Philadelphia. Before everyone jumps on me, because you're probably already hitting reply, no, I don't know this for fact, just what I am insinuating based on what I have read. It's unfortunate for Flames fans but it's likely true. He's a young kid. Does it mean he'll make the right business decision for his career? I'm not sure how much it would impact that. Does it mean that today if he had to choose to play for the team he always dreamed of vs. the team that drafted and gave him his shot and he's got a buddy on?
Don't know about that either. And that's why I say he probably wants to keep the term low and give himself options, and I'm suggesting that likely in his mind, an option is playing for the team he grew up loving. I don't think I'm off base by suggesting that, and I do think Flames fans are delusional if they think that all of a sudden magically he would surrender his career and term to only play for the Calgary Flames.

And Taylor Hall grew up wearing a Flames jersey.
You can take every player in the league and look into their childhood and draw that conclusion.
Your post is completely dreamed up, which is fine... until you go and say

If Gaudreau wanted to play for another team all he had to do was go to college for one more year and he would have had his "dream" chance at playing for whatever team his little heart desired. He instead chose Calgary and I think that means something.

If he brings us a few cups I'll gladly pack his bags for him on his way out.
He's young and this is pretty far from home, even if his current plans were to head east at free agency much could change between now and then.
