Further tax the product the biggest industry in Alberta produces. That will surely help turn things around.

Well...our Provincial Government did suggest that if you couldnt find work in Alberta to go to BC. Does that make it official policy? If so it would only be fair to at least pay their bus fare.

East seems like the more logical solution? Considering you can keep going further east in search of work... But I guess it's warm in BC...

There's work here, although the cost of living kind of cancels out that advantage, but there is work.

Its a brilliant strategy by the NDP, depopulate Alberta mainly with the private sector workers, while expanding the public sector and not negotiating with them too hard. Badda Bing Badda Bang we get an NDP Dynasty and a workers paradise where all workers are either government workers or grateful to get their weekly ration of government cheese and crackers.

Cause there would be TONS of work if any other party was in power.
Our economy is F****D. We have one export and it's not profitable. No political voodoo would change that.

Not sure a change of government would have people turn around and head back to Alberta for a fruitful land of jobs and opportunities, as some may convince themselves.

Except other parties wouldn't literally piss on the fire, throw dirt on it, pour concrete on top of it, and then super tax the survivors.
Wait until Janurary or Feburary, when the real exodus begins.

Why do people keep believing this?
Is it some sort of self-justification thing where there is this need to believe that circumstances are completely beyond anyone's ability to change or influence so whatever happens is unavoidable and as such it makes sitting there like a useless lump and taking it acceptable as opposed to looking for alternatives and solutions?

This is classic. Because there is no magic button to turn Alberta into the Garden of Eden theres no point even attempting to do anything to improve the situation at all. Just give up. Add some more taxes.

I would wager to say that most anyone now who has moved to BC or another province - homeless or not - would not move back to Alberta unless there was an employment opportunity in hand, NDP or PC.
Sucks to see people leaving but it is a consequence of downturn.

Okay tell me where these jobs would come from? Love to hear it. Don't get me wrong, the NDP is a train wreck, but so is this province. We're a SOL, in the tank, game over. Pick whoever you want to put in power, anyone from human history, and tell me how they would fix the fact that our main export isn't profitable and is currently worth HALF of what it needs to be to see industry growth?
You think people are flooding Vancouver homeless shelters cause they have to pay more for gasoline?
You guys are the delusional ones. Desperate for someone to blame for this besides our own crappy economic situation. I guess it helps people deal with the fact that we have no control over our situation what so ever.

There would certainly be more capital investment in the province today if any other major Alberta political party was in power.

Completely untrue, there are always things you can do, even if its something as simple as being steady and consistent to be an attractive place for investment.
I'm not going to go through the laundry list of factors that could be influenced, but heres an idea: Change the factors within your control to lower the profitability point on that product.
Make costs of doing business/living lower to get to a profitability point sooner. Why can we not sell our product? 2 main reasons:
1. We cant make a profit because our costs are too high.
What happened? In a desperate attempt to ravage the scraps we jacked the crap out of the costs of doing business from taxes, to rent and utilities to transport.
2. We cant get our product to market.

Yes, you could improve the situation, like I said, the trainwreck that is the NDP is terri-bad but you're talking minimal improvements on an industry which you know full well will never be able to survive at current price levels regardless of if you reverse everything the NDP did.
So when you come into a thread like this and every post is going on how this is the NDP's fault, well sorry, that's ridiculous.
