Default Looking for good teacher for violin lessons

Hi,

I'm looking to start my girl in violin lessons. Can anyone recommend a good teacher in Calgary? Thanks.

If he doesn't teach beginners he will definitely have great recommendations for Calgary area teachers that do.

I was just about to say Darcy. He's a great teacher and a great guy.

Out of curiosity, why violin? Doesn't seem like a very marketable instrument. Guitar at least she could grow up to be a rock star. Violin - best case scenario - she's a cog in an orchestra making just below minimum wage.

Ashley MacIsaac turned the violin into moderate success.

I don't know very many guitar players or bands that make a decent living, without holding down other jobs.

Play for the love of music! For Art!

Yeah I know, but if you're going to learn an instrument, why not one that could lead to fame and fortune? Playing a violin will just annoy everybody.

Anything can lead to fame or fortune. A stupid tweet or youtube video can lead to fame or fortune. So could the violin.

You can be a folk rock star with Mumford and sons or some other hipster music with a fiddle, not so much with a violin.

Fame, maybe, but can you point to any tweets that have led to fortune? Or YouTube videos, for that matter? Say you monetize your YouTube video, how much do you even make per 100,000 views or whatever. My guess is not enough to be a fortune.

Let's take this aside to a PM discussion or another thread so joegrang can discuss violin teachers for his daughter and not how to monetize youtube videos.

Yeah, because bumping this thread and having a fun side conversation is really going to get in the way of answering the guy's question that was already answered twice in responses three and four.

Someone obviously hasn't heard of Lindsey Stirling. She made over $6 million on YouTube last year

Danuta Ciring - http://www.mtroyal.ca/ProgramsCourse...bio_ciring.htm

My sister took violin lessons from her growing up. She's really good, but also very European in her approach. If you daughter isn't really serious about it, I would not recommend her, however she has had some amazing violinsts come out of her teachings. I know a handful of her students that went on to have music scholarships at various universities in North America.

Playing the freaking violin of all things. Piano guys did it with a piano and a cello. You don't need to play the guitar to get fame and fortune.
