Who is the next Glencross/Hudler?
A Player that could have made a nice chunk of money if they took a way less greedy contract then they were asking for. Player who is getting on in age / skills are deteriorating. Player that the new NHL passes by. Player that doesn't get a contract.
Curious to see who you guys think will be biting the dust soon a la Glencross/Hudler/(potentially Russell etc)

Jarome Iginla could've done really well for himself if he'd just signed 1 year contracts for $1 million with Chicago, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, but instead he chased the money to a terrible team in Colorado.
This is sort of the opposite of what you're asking, but I think now the new NHL is passing him by and he'll never get a chance at a cup. I feel if he'd signed with better teams for 1 year each he'd have better stats which would allow him to play longer. Instead, he's floundering in a broken system in Colorado, and this coming year may be his last. I bet that if he was able to sign a 1 year deal with Chicago on July 1 this year for limited money, he'd have great success and his stats would skyrocket. He might even have gotten another contract for '17-'18. Instead, he'll get 30 points on a bad Avalanche team.

Wideman, Stajan and Bollig would not get picked up by any team in the NHL if their contracts were bought out.

Russell will be signed to a reasonable contract before the season starts. My guess is $2.5 million for 2 years.

I'm not sure Hudler is in that group yet, I bet he signs somewhere once the Vesey sweepstakes are done.

Ramo is likely done as an NHLer.

Stajan maybe, but I think it quite likely Wideman and Bollig could get new contracts.

Colorado had just come off a season in which they won the President's Trophy.
Iginla didn't chase the money.

I don't know about that. I think it's a total coinflip whether Bollig would get a new NHL contract.
I know some teams will still want face punchers, but Bollig is like many facepunchers, no good at all any other part of actually playing hockey.

Yeah, but Colorado was obviously going to regress the next season, like the 13-14 Leafs and the 15-16 Flames did. Iggy shouldn't have taken the long-term deal if he wanted to have a guaranteed successful future. But, you know what, he managed to create a stable environment for his family, so maybe he did win, in a way.

Iginla was tired of uprooting his family and went for term. He also chose a team he felt had a chance of winning the Cup.

A lot of players don't care, follow, or understand advanced stats. While most people thought Colorado overachieved, I'd still say most thought they would be a strong up and coming team with the likes of MacKinnon, Duchene, Landeskog, and Varlamov.
Again, he didn't chase the money.

No, he chased term. Which, depending on his motives, could have been a good or bad decision. If he wanted to win a Stanley Cup, bad decision. If he wanted to create stability for his family, good decision.

Then I suppose Marian Hossa did the same when he chose to sign with the Hawks.

Er, no. The 2013-14 Boston Bruins won that, and Iginla was on that team...

We have at least 3 players I wonder about
BOLLIG
WIDEMAN
STAJAN
if a new coach can rejuvenate a career short term I hope it's Stajan as the benefactor.
