Betting odds for the Stanley Cup

I was looking on Bodog today and noticed they have the flames have at a 1/50 shot to win the cup. For comparison, Toronto has the same odds.... Only 4 teams in the NHL would award you with a bigger payout than the Calgary Flames.

Will anyone be putting a few dollars on the Flames for the upcoming season?

Why do the Hurricanes have such good odds?

The Capitals, Blues, Kings, Islanders and Flyers all have surprisingly bad odds.

Remember though odds aren't just calculated on how they think teams will do...the likely hood of someone actually placing a bet on said team comes into play.

Flames are a better team than the Leafs yet the Leafs will have more people putting money down on them. This explains why opening odds are even between the two teams

Im not familiar with betting - does +5000 for the Flames mean that if you put 100 you get 500,000?

It's 50/1. So for 100 you win $5k

+100 means bet a dollar, win a dollar.
-110 means bet $1.10, win a dollar.

Pretty good considering it's obviously a better chance. We just got Elliott I'd say that makes it 1/14 now (optimistically). We way underperformed with the worst goalies in the league and an overbearing coach. The Flames are way way better than last year and that's underestimated.

Our core is as good as many of the leagues best we just need a Kevin or two to provide adequate depth
