Anybody else watching the World Junior Summer Showcase? Our latest prospect in net looks like a keeper! He's totally stoning Team Canada. 22 shot shutout after the first period.

He faced 40 shots tonight and only allowed 1 goal. Very impressive performance.

He was extremely good tonight. The one he let in was also on his defence. They left a guy wide open in front of the net. He is amazing down low and almost seems impossible to beat low at times.

He's also really good on tracking the puck through traffic. I kept wondering how he was seeing some of the shots.

I thought he looked very good in the Memorial Cup in the big games and maybe didn't get enough credit because of the stacked team he played for. The trend in the NHL right now is the big 6'3"+ goaltenders that play the Ben Bishop cover the net with his body style and Parsons is more of a Jonathan Quick smaller but athletic goaltender. I think you can never have enough goaltending prospects in the organization as Flames fans should know a lot of them don't pan out so you need to keep swinging in hopes of getting a hit.

^will be interesting to see how that trend changes with equipment alterations in the next few years.
could very well be that the big goaltender goes somewhat dinosaur, or at least the ones that can't move post to post quickly to cover up the new exposed holes from not being Stay Puff Marshmellow men.

I mite catch some heat for this but I'm going to say it anyways. Parsons in the 5-6 games I've watched has impressed me more at age 18, than any game I've seen of McDonald at any age.

Do the goalie equipment changes take effect in 2016/2017 or the year after?

I too have been really impressed by Parsons any time I've seen him but I was also wowed by McDonald the many times I saw him play in his draft year. He hasn't been as consistent since his injury but I'm not ready to give up on him yet.

I honestly never seen a real impressive game by him. I certainly haven't lost hope in him tho. For all we know Schneider becomes our #1 in a few years. Goalies...

I just like that we have more than one legitimate goaltending prospects who look good.
Parsons is the new flavor of the month, but he is also deserving of every accolade being thrown his way.
MacDonald is - IMO - starting to be a bit devalued by some here. He routinely keeps his team in most games single-handedly (for the most part). He is big, but he is quick too.
Gillies - no need to talk about him, as everyone knows how good he is looking.
Schneider - High compete level, and is the least talked about goalie prospect. He may not have the pedigree that some other goalies in the system has, but he is a fine prospect who you can't discount as a possibility down the road to be the starting goaltender in Calgary.
Rittich - don't let the development camp time cool you off - he did well in the Czech league, and he was a fairly highly sought-after goalie this off-season.
Flames are absolutely flush with strong goaltending prospects, have what I consider a top 10 starter this season (top 5 most likely, but we will see how the increased starts this year plays into his numbers) and also signed a heck of a strong backup goalie who had to step in last year in Buffalo (a lousy team) and posted some good numbers - looks like he may be the best backup the Flames have ever had.
I do not remember any time in Flames' history where they were this full of good goaltending prospects. There usually has been ONE possibility like Irving, or Kidd, or whomever, that everyone hoped would take the reigns down the road, and that just didn't.
I just think I feel confident that one or even two of this list could eventually step up and become a really good starter down the road, and not sound crazy or be hoping for that miracle lotto win. I don't think it is too much to expect one single prospect out of the bunch the Flames have who have developed in different leagues and have shown a tremendous amount of promise to one day develop enough to be tend net in Calgary.

I don't think MacDonald is being devalued. I think most fans see him for what he is which is a middle of the road goaltending prospect. Every time he's been on a big stage or Flames camp he's come up small and that's a concern regardless of what he does in junior.

With the addition of Parsons and having Gillies, Rittich, McDonald and Schnieder do we maybe see one of the goalie prospects moved to sweeten a deal? My thoughts are the Flames would like a top line RW and maybe Gillies or McDonald could be an add-on in a deal to bring a forward back.
It never hurts to have lots of goalie prospects but was curious to see what other members thought. Gillies seems to have a bit of an injury problem and could maybe moved, but who knows how other teams value him.

Gillies is not available for trade this season. Flames will want to see if he can be their #1 of the future. That being said, if he gets injured or sucks it will really lower his value. For these reasons I think he is most likely to be a future Flames starter or he fades out and isn't an Nhl goalie.
I think this will be his year though! Would love another drafted player to fill a key roll!

Seen a bunch of him with the Knights, and I was elated when we selected him and Tkachuk. Always wary of goalies, but we definitely have great potential here.
Really good kid too.

I agree, if he's healthy he definitely deserves to show what he can do.
