Default 2nd Gen Apple TV Woes

Recently went to fire up my ATV2 and got no response. It's been plugged into a decent surge protector and all other electronics on said bar are working fine.

Tried the 'restore in itunes' method. Successful. Machine seemed to go through the paces and the light was working.

Tried plugging back into TV - nothing.

Pulled back off the thing, unplugged and replugged the logic board connection from the power supply - no help.

Tried a different power cable that I know works, still nothing.

Seems to me the issue is in the power supply.

Is this thing toast? Anyone have similar issues ever?

Sounds like it's time for a new Apple TV. I have a 3rd Gen and I regret buying it, I should've waited three more months for a 4th gen. You have an excuse to upgrade, I'd recommend doing that.

^ I believe the whole point of the 2nd generation Apple TV is that it can be jailbroken very easily. At least that is why it is more desirable to some than the 3rd or 4th generation, which AFAIK can't be jail broken. That is why the 2nd generation still resells very well (or at least it used to).

As for BsFaninCGY, I am not sure what you can do. Maybe you can find another broken one and salvage the power supply from it?

Huh, I didn't know that. Thanks for the tip!

BsFan, will the Apple Store service it? IIRC, they'll service any product under five years old.

You're all right. It's time for an upgrade and I grabbed a 4th Gen today. It's awesome

I had a 3rd Gen but gave it away to keep my 2nd Gen in case I ever felt like jail breaking it.

I'm sure I could get it serviced, but the cost would probably be prohibitive considering a phone call to Apple for something out of warranty costs $35 I believe.

I may try to fix it down the road, but for now I'm gonna enjoy running Plex on my shiny new ATV4.

Thanks all.

What benefits are gained from jail breaking now days? Kodi can be easily installed on a non jailbroken APTV4 and I was always under the impression that the only reason to jailbreak was Kodi.

And Plex, but that is an app on the app store now.
