Congratulations to our client Roman Dyukov on signing 1 year contract with Calgary Flames Organization

Djukov - our new man in the American Hockey League. Very zdorovskoe event for the 20-year-old boy who, by the way, in his time did not get to the NHL Entry Draft. Roman played in the system of Minsk "Youth" for many, many years. But last season changed all that radically.
Firstly, Djukov won everything that could be won from the "Youth" in Belarus.
Secondly, he attracted the attention of the coaching staff of the national team and was among the regular participants of the Camp's main team of the country. The peak of the season was an invitation to the World Championship in Russia. In general, the Belarusian performance at the tournament turned out a failure, but the young defender has proved to be a good side and managed to interest overseas clubs. Right during the World Cup in touch with representatives Dyukov out "Calgary".
- It was a surprise - says Roman. - First that there is interest from NHL teams started a conversation Todd Woodcroft - Scout "Calgary", which the tournament was one of the assistants on the staff of Dave Lewis. Events began to develop rapidly, and a couple of days later, I learned that I want to talk to the general manager of "Flames". It was hard to believe that all this happened to me, and it seems that the positive emotions only gave me strength and confidence in the game. However, the full realization of what happened has not come so far - even after training at the camp, and the signing of the contract.
Of course, the contract Belarusians Canadian club has not offered at once, but only offered to participate in the July Camp beginners. From this chance Djukov refused.
Roman Djukov: "I always wanted to play overseas. So now the priority of North America "
Camp in Calgary started at the beginning of July and lasted a little less than a week. We train young players at the Olympic base. According to Roman, the conditions were excellent for training, but the training themselves were "killing".
- It was the most difficult tests in my life. Yes, there were standard exercises - pulling on statics. But some very surprising. A lot of attention in the United States is given to how the player supports the balance of the body. But the most difficult - the bike. It was necessary to work at a maximum two minutes, pounding heartbeat somewhere under the heavens. All the boys, and I among them, climbed down from the bike and fell to the floor, as knocked down - instant depletion. Then he looked in the mirror, and I by reloading the entire face pale, dark circles under the eyes. Horror!
Every day in the Calgary hockey players trained twice a day in time - room plus ice.
- Training on the ice is also very intense. Because of the small amount involved did almost breaks - drank some water for 15 seconds and drove on. Completed Camp dvuhstoronkoy. My team won 6: 1 - I have "4", even though nothing had scored.

Flames sign Roman Dyukov to 1 year AHL deal
Hold on let me google him...
Low point totals, and relatively low PIMs as well. Possibly a Deryk Engelland-ish type for the farm? 6'2 205lbs...
Can't really complain when I don't know much about him other than what his stats say.

I recall he looked pretty good at the development camp scrimmage from what I saw.

If my memory serves, he was decent at development camp, though he needs to work on his defense. Offensively, he was good, and he jumped into the rush a couple times.
Small sample size, though.

Turek was pretty excellent before his huge contract.
Hamrlik was very excellent as a Phaneuf mentor.

Onviously a contingency plan if Gaudreau doesn't re-sign.

Now that this negotiation is out of the way, Treliving can focus on Gaudreau and Monahan

From that link and google translate, it seems he also had an offer from Chicago on the table but choose Calgary because he felt it would be easier to get to the NHL with the Flames.
He also said the Flames offered him a contract at the Flames development camp, but he was already committed to go to Chicago's camp so he didn't say accept.
Flames also offered him the choice of a 1year or 2 year contract.
Flames also have thing for Belorussian d-men.
Falkovsky - drafted 7th round 2016
Yevenko - signed a AHL PTO with Adirondack after his college career was over. Blue Jackets signed him to a NHL contract after the summer
Dyukov - invited to 2016 development camp. signed to AHL deal a month later

Since he's only 20 years-old, if it was an NHL contract, it would have to be a 3-year ELC (as far as I know, teams don't have the option of offering shorter ELCs than what is designated in the CBA). If it's only a one-year contract, it must be an AHL deal (if he does well in Stockton, that can be upgraded to an NHL deal midseason).
Oh, I guess I missed the part where it says AHL deal in the title... so, yeah.

All of the above is correct.
Also from the article: after the development camp the Flames gave him a printout of his strengths (in his case: legs and balance) and things to work on (arm strength).
Also of note was that while here in Calgary he was met by Flames reps, in Chicago he had to figure logistics on his own with taxis etc.
