Flames development camp - Week of July 4th
Looks like the Flames have booked their ice times at Winsport for development camp for the week of July 4th.
If you are planning on going, probably skip going the first day as it is usually fitness testing and not open to the public.
The eligibility for this camp:
1. unsigned draft choices
2. any player with an entry level contract with less than 120 NHL Games played but did not play in excess of 70 NHL games in the preceding regular season
3. draft related unrestricted free agents
4. players who were eligible for selection in the preceding Entry draft but undrafted
5. any player who is not with an entry level contract who finished the preceding season disabled and submits a request to participate in this camp
per the CBA teams cannot force a player to attend this camp more than 3 times, although the player may elect to still come.

I wonder if Janko will still go even though he doesn't have to. Get a free week finally after footing his own bill for 3 years.

He already said he's having dev camp is part of his plans even before he signed his ELC.

Yeah, Janko's always seemed excited to come to these and every year he's shown better than the prior year. He was pretty dominant last year.

I think the biggest question right now is will Rafikov finally straighten out his visa issues and finally attend a camp?

I honestly had forgotten about Rafikov. Im doubtful he ever comes over at this point. Maybe when he's like 27.

Yeah Rafikov had a crap season this past year. Not sure if it was from bad play but he got tossed around to 4 different teams in 3 different leagues.
Played a grand total of 40 regular season games and 15 MHL playoff games. MHL I think is the AHL of the KHL?
He did very well in the playofs notching 10 points in 15 gp.
One would have to think he'd come over and at least attend camp and see if he can get some better consistency over here.

MHL is the CHL
VHL is the AHL
Rafikov's current contract ends after the 16/17 season. Unless he has an out clause written into his contract, I would imagine he stays at least another year.

Just from stat watching last year seems like a wasted year for Rafikov development wise.
Anyways we should take another Russian Dman this year in the 7th. Have someone to come over and play in the Ahl with Rushan. Last year the BJ's got Gavrikov in the 6th and the Oilers got Paygin in the 7th. Both could be NHLers if they commit.
My pick is Dmitri Yudin from expert stat watching. He was good at the WJC's two years ago as well. Yegor Rykov is good too.

If it's the week of July 4, the kids won't be able to attend the Stampede this year.

I think the idea is to have Stampede at the end of their week rather than have to juggle both during the whole event.

Why is it important that they attend the Stampede?

These are kids trying to sniff out a professional hockey gig. A night at the midway of a local fair might be a fun activity but inconsequential.
A team excursion to Banff would largely accomplish the same thing.
Just sayin'.

Not all will make the NHL so some need to buy a Dream Home ticket.

Getting a chance to win a pair of mini bikes may be top of the NHL mountain for some.

They do both. Team building is huge part of these camps. Plus sending them to Stampede lets them feel like celebrities, a good ego boost.
