Default Samsung SSD devices

A word of caution - Samsung is no longer servicing or warrantying their SSDs. I've got one that failed after 9 months of service - when I called their warranty line the person stated they are no longer supporting them, and they are refusing to do anything about it.

F you Samsung, and your crap customer service. That will be the last Samsung product I have bought.

There's got to be more to this story, otherwise there'd be news all over the IT sites as Samsung SSDs have a very positive reputation.

EDIT: Don't see anything on the forums on Anand or HardOCP or Storage Review or Tom's. Maybe you've discovered something?

I'm calling them too as I've got quite a few Samsung SSDs

Lol their warranty website is broken...

http://www.samsung.com/ca/support/warranty/

I talked to someone in support, they said that all warranties for SSDs should be handled by their "partners" i.e. where I purchased it from. If they couldn't do anything (or if the store wasn't open anymore was my question), they said I could email them my bill of sale and someone would call me back with my "options". But he wouldn't/couldn't tell me what those options were.

I said what if I wanted to know what my warranty was before I purchased a Samsung SSD, since he said a number of times the information on the website wasn't correct, and he kept telling me to email my receipt to them to find out.

After repeating the same thing over a bunch of times when I tried to ask what those options would be, he put me on hold to see if he could find out more info then I "got" disconnected.

So yeah...

Samsung SSD's are pretty popular. I'm sure if people get wind of this news, it'll break out huge on PC blogs/reddit/etc and they will change the warranty back.

They're just wishing for bad press with this. Never piss off PC users!

Called Memory Express, they don't have anything specific for Samsung drives that would jive with what the Samsung rep was saying. MemEx facilitates the warranty for the first year, but as far as they know it's still a manufacturer's warranty.

If you can't get any more help from Samsung Ironhorse you might want to email a site like Anandtech as if Samsung is in fact doing this I'm sure they'd be VERY interested in breaking a story.

The Samsung rep did tell me to email "casvc5@samsung.com" with my receipt to get warranty "options" for a failed drive, so maybe try that.
