Default Surgical resident plants bathroom cam in Calgary hospital

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmont...room-1.3688129

Quote:
....

The University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services quietly fired a surgical resident in 2012 after he admitted to planting a hidden camera in a unisex public washroom at Foothills Medical Centre.

But the Calgary Police Service now admits the Crown declined to lay charges against Hisham Sultan, the young surgeon in training, because one of its constables botched the investigation

....

Sultan's residency was terminated.

The female employee found on the camera's recording was notified of the incident.

Sultan appealed his termination and was initially supported by the Professional Association of Resident Physicians of Alberta. The association later withdrew its support and Sultan's grievance was ultimately denied.

Sultan declined repeated interview requests over the past three weeks. In a phone conversation, he said he now works in a Calgary fast-food business. He said he and his wife, who have a newborn baby, are struggling financially.

He said he has unsuccessfully tried to get a "clinical observership" in a hospital, which would be a first step to possibly regaining entry to a residency.

"Do you understand how this (story) could potentially prevent me from working here again in the medical field?" Sultan said. "Right now I am struggling to do other observerships, get back into the clinical scene, and this will do nothing for me.

"I have been struggling with this for four years now and you have no idea what I have gone through," said Sultan. He did not respond to a CBC News email query in which he was asked if he had sought professional counselling as part of any attempt to salvage his career.
....

The resident confesses and gets fired. CPS botches the investigation and no charges are laid. The resident has trouble finding a spot to continue his residency and feels sorry for himself. Not a bad outcome considering the cops botched the investigation. This guy really threw it all away. Im sure he must love all the questions from friends and family he hasnt seen in a while about how his career as a doc is going.

Any discipline for the constable that botched the investigation? Oh no wait, it's only the public who have consequences when cops screw up.

The quality of policework in Calgary is pretty low. I'm not sure how it corresponds to other cities across North America, but CPS should be embarassed at the work that a lot of police officers do.

When you get mad because a criminal was not convicted at trial, 95% of the time it's because the police screwed something up.

LOL, I was just trying to come up with something that rhymed with "swing", but came up empty. "Secretions" is a little "ewww" though, so you only get half points.

LOL - CBC publishes story.

Good on them, hope this guy never works in the medial field anywhere ever again.

I actually had to look up 'synonyms for peeing' and then I had to stretch it a little.

How someone can confess to something, be beyond a doubt guilty of a crime, and still not be charged and convicted for the crime is beyond...

Shows how messed up our legal system is...

Not being able to continue in the medical profession should at least serve as some of his punishment...
He was training to be a surgeon...imagine what this creep would want to do to patients who are under anesthesia...
