Selling A Car - Weird Phone Call

So I'm selling my old car, I posted an ad online. Just now I got a call from a BC number (note I'm in Nova Scotia) and the caller asked me a bunch of questions regarding the car that is already in my ad. I basically confirmed that "yes the car is red" and "yes it's an automatic" then I said I was firm on the price listed. They spoke very quickly, and responded they will let their client in the area know the information.

What the bloody hell was that? Felt like a scam, I was waiting for "we'll eTransfer you money" or something to that effect.

Any idea what this is? How the scam works?

Are you selling something more rare or something that might be an enthusiast car? Could be some sort of car hunter, as you sometimes get those for certain cars.

A 2001 Camry, it's in good shape and has low kms but nothing an "enthusiast" would want.

It's could or could not be a scam. I recently sold a card and got a few of these phone calls as well. Basically they are agencies that will try to sell your car for you for a fee.

Sometimes they are doing it because they offer people with bad credit poor financing deals for the car and only make money off the financing deal, others will want you to pay up $100-$150 to sell and market your car on various websites. Careful with the second one though as some are scammers that want you to sign over the car to them first.

Probably not the issue, but did you double check that website has you listed in the correct location? Possible the ad is showing up in a BC section for some reason.

Those are scams. You get lots if you use autotrader, phone calls from people saying if I can sell your car how much is it worth to you, or we have people looking for your car, and they look for finders fees, but there are no buyers and they are strictly scam sites and businesses ... just the same as the door to door furnace people, hot water heater inspectors, etc.
