Icon40 Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Penguins on their Stanley Cup win

Played a high-tempo, exciting brand of hockey in the Finals and they took down the dirty rotten Sharks. Well-deserved champs. Congratulations!

Hopefully Calgary's new coach takes a few things from this win and implements some similar strategies. Possession, speed, intensity... a true pack mentality to always pressure the puck carrier.

Calgary isn't that far away from the pens style of play IMO.

PENS WIN proves speed can be pretty critical and size not necessarily key.

Man they play well as a team the Penguins really deserve this Championship.

So, will a certain assistant coach now get his chance to coach the Flames?

Crosby shouldn't have won the Conn Smythe. I'd have had him 4th, maybe lower.

Kessel, Murray, Jones, Couture all had a better case.

Haha hilarious with the Byron comment lol.

Boy Pittsburgh had some great team speed and was able to roll line after line which was really fun to watch.

Still a joke that Crosby got the Conn Smythe due to reputation when Paul Byron was much more deserving.

And to echo some of what the broadcast mentioned, the key with the Pens wasn't necessarily blazing speed. They moved the puck quickly and transitioned smoothly.

Apart from Rust maybe, I don't think they really have any speedsters.

This comment reeks of someone looking at stat lines and not having watched all the Pens games through the playoffs.

Crosby was dominant. When you add his game winners as well as the crucial faceoffs won setting up game winners, its pretty silly to suggest he was undeserving.

Sure, a case can be made for a few other guys, but Crosby was constantly driving the play and lead that team when the game was on the line.

He was a good choice and a deserving MVP candidate.

Can't stand the Pens, but they deserved everything they got.

Really wish Thornton and Marleau could've won that Cup though.

Meh, I think it was more of a reputation pick. He certainly wasn't bad, but he's definitely not the MVP in my eyes. I also think it's a joke that he's a Hart Trophy finalist.

Thornton and Marleau played like garbage this series. Didn't deserve it, hate to say.

Kind of a sad sack effort from the Western Conference finalists. Still full marks to the Pens. That was textbook team defence. Seeing those once offense-first star players band together and play a strong 200-foot game is impressive.

Nobody was more important in this cup win than Crosby, faceoffs, scoring, possession and driving his line... he was great. Kessel was good but make no mistake he got the room to be good because Crosby got the attention.

Yes! Now Kessel can drive around Toronto in that car he got from the all star games with the Stanley Cup while eating processed hot dogs.

Suck it Toronto.

I have been cheering for the Pens every since Badger Bob and Joey Mullen went over there. Stopped cheering for them because of Crosby and his whining, and Malkin being so dirty. That said, I can never tired of Lemieux hoisting the cup. Always nice to see him doing that.

This entire run was very much a team effort. Some nights it was Murray, some nights it was the d-core, some nights it was the forwards. Every line did its job, each defenseman did his job, the coach did his job, the goalie did his job. This was not a matter of a superstar player or two taking over a series. This was a team win, top to bottom. No one player on the Pens really stood out on a nightly basis.

Crosby's game changed dramatically before our eyes this season. Is he putting up the numbers he has in the past? Nope. But he played a 200 foot game every single night. He was used to shut down other teams' top lines. He was used to win huge faceoffs. He was used in a million different ways other than just dominance offensively. The numbers may not be there, but his mark is all over this team right now.

In years previous, Crosby was petulant and easily frustrated, easily knocked off his game. This season he was determined, steel-eyed on his goal, and the team followed suit. This was the most disciplined I've seen a Pens team play in years, and it started with his leadership.

There are cases for several players, but there's nothing wrong with Sid taking home the Smythe.
