Would that protect him from the expansion draft? I believe CBJ signed Werenski to an ATO for that exact reason.

He would have been protected against 2017 regardless.

This will protect against a 2018 expansion draft.

Great news. I'm interested to see how much the kid has developed. As someone said in the other thread, don't discount the importance of the Otto/Yelle types to a team. If he fits into that mold I think most of us would be very happy.

This will help the team so much more than the 51st overall pick. I can't believe anyone voted for the pick.

I think this will be great for his development, it looks like he's got better and better and hopefully he gets even better in Stockton then can step onto the Flames and become a mainstay on the team.

I am sure Treliving will rescind the offer when he finds out Mark removed any mention of being a Flames prospect from his twitter profile.

My ideal vision for Jankowski: As the Flames enter their contender window in a couple years he joins the team in a bottom 6 role and flourishes.

You need guys like these on their entry level deals to offset guys like Gaudreau, Monahan and Bennett who will be making major coin.

I expect him to be a big part of the Flames future success, but never challenging Monahan or Bennett for a top centre spot. And that's A ok.

Why couldn't they sign him to a 3 year deal and burn a year instead of a 2 year deal with an ATO? I would have preferred to see him this year

The CBA specifically states that a 22 year old player as of September 15 on the calendar year MUST sign a 2 year deal ELC. No more/ no less.

That's now known as trying to pull a Benning.

I can't wait until the 2017 draft and when we can add whoever is taken with the 51st pick to the Mattaa, Hertl, Teravanien stable of players to lament on the Flames missing out on.

"But we took Andersson and Kylington at #53 and #60 and they're both better prospects than Janko!"

Kid has upside that I think some may be underestimating. Great to hear he's ready to develop properly.

Well he has the physical tools to maybe be that type one day but so far he hasn't shown that grit. As he gets stronger and more confident it may come.

The NHL isn't all that gritty either nowadays. No one needs the grit of a guy nicknamed Sand Paper to fill that role in today's game, Jankowski or otherwise.

Sand Box!
So you agree he's not comparable to Otto or Yelle which I was saying.
