People always say the McDonald's burn was the worst of the frivolous lawsuits but her burns were significant and medical costs were high and the machines were defective.
My question here would be was the machine working properly otherwise yeah ta is hot.

People made fun of that lady with the coffee at McDonald's years ago too, but when you hear just how serious her burns were you quickly realize that it was no laughing matter. She had third degree burns on her thighs and crotch, seriously major burns. McDonald's was found to have kept their coffee hotter than others to make it last longer too, all factors that worked against them when they decided to go to court against her. Bad move.
Reading this article it appears the boy was wearing pants and he still received what looks like a pretty serious burn. Will be interesting to see the follow up on this.
Edit: GGG and I on the same page.

It sounds like there was mass panic. Does Tim's not have an emergency burn kit and training on how to use it?

I do appreciate the difference in response, even if only anecdotal.
American: This coffee burned my son; I'm suing you for millions.
Canadian: This tea burned my son: I'd kindly ask that your company consider any changes you could possibly make in wake of this incident.

Yeah those look like very serious burns. Thread title seems a lot less clever when you see that the tea in this case was hot enough to land a three year old child in hospital.

Read the McDonald's case though. She sued because of medical cost that McDonald's wasn't going to pay.
Government funded healthcare significantly reduces a need to sue.

I don't know about that. I have had some really cold tea in the past. Ice cold in fact.

Yep, I successfully read that, it was more just morning humor than anything.

Clothing can make burns worse as it keeps the hot liquid near the skin and keeps the heat it in the area.

Or we can laugh at your reading comprehension.
No one in this thread laughed at the 3 year old.

The couple times I have had Tim Horton's tea it has been really, really hot. It doesn't even approach drinkable until at least 5 minutes.

I'm confused, are you suggesting something that didn't happen is happening or are you suggesting we all join you in laughing?

Their tea is stupid hot. Have scalded myself a couple of times, just from the cup dripping. I usually let a tea from them sit 20 minutes before I can drink it. Poor kid.

Jeebus. Ice. NEVER ice, it'll do as much and more, damage. Remove the clothing from the area to stop the burn, don't pat the area with rough paper napkins, you'll cause the skin to break down more plus introduce fibers to the burn area that could cause infection. If you're going to apply water, it should be cool, not cold - just a bit above tepid and apply/pour gently, then cover with a clean and dry cloth or sheet and get to a hospital if it appears large and likely more than a 1st degree burn/scald.

The crappy Tim Hortons lids are a bigger issue.
