Shots were reported fired in downtown Dallas on Thursday night during a protest over shootings by police of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota, CNN affiliate KTVT said.
Two Dallas officers were shot, KTVT reported. CNN could not immediately confirm that information.
The shooting happened as protests were underway about two blocks from Dealey Plaza.
Video showed the crowd suddenly sprinting away. Clarissa Myles said she eating at McDonalds when the chaos began.
"Everyone was screaming, people were running," she said. "I saw at least probably 30 shots go off."
"I was walking next to the officer who was helping with the protest, all of a sudden I saw six to eight shots," one witness told the station. "It looked like two officers went down."
Another witness who was at the protest told the station he heard multiple gunshots.
"Whoever was shooting had an assault rifle — and I know guns. The shots were in rapid succession," the witness said.

Dallas' @FOX4 is now reporting “between 3-6 officers down.” One suspect is down, another still actively shooting.
This will never end until there is a brutal civil war in the US. Everyone will have guns, even more than now.
Wow. Hysteria in that video. I couldn't imagine being at an event where that sort of thing happens.
So a revenge shooting on police officers in general?

America is just so terribly sick. They have a lunatic and a serial liar in the race for the Presidency, almost daily shootings just like this one, and any potentially real progress in any way stifled by petty political spats.
I just can't fathom how Republicans in the House won't even let this get to a vote. Seriously, we get that you're in love with the NRA, but for goodness sake, give the people what they want!

Statement from @DPDChief on tonight's shooting in downtown Dallas
Oh my goodness. This is so sad.
I wish this would get gun control legislation finally passed, but that's just not going to happen. I just wish this didn't happen as frequently as it does.

This is a cultural problem, not a police problem. This recent wave of incidents involving the police is simply a microcosm of the national crisis.

I mentioned this in the GMG thread but I think that the hostility and unrest in the USA is going to become extremely severe following the two police shootings this week.
