Default Price Tracking apps and money saving

I used to buy stuff off Amazon anytime thinking pric e is good and not pay attention. If u pay attention fluctuates alot. I use keepa app. It works good! Tracks price sends alert

I sometimes use barcode scanner to search online. It works sometimes not always.

Any other suggestion to save money?

I think ebay there is one... need to start using.

Also ali express and temu is awesome for those haven't tried takes a while but good deals

I use Camel Camel Camel for Amazon and Red Flag Deals to see if there’s anything good. I’ve also spent money on stuff I didn’t even need because of RFD.

Wirecutter and rtings for reviews.

Camel Camel Camel to price check Amazon.

Lately I've been finding deals through the Walmart marketplace thing they've started up, it's vaguely similar to Amazon.

I agree walmart ok. Just got to be careful with shipping fees accidentally paid once or twice

Definitely have to watch on shipping fees. Shipping to a local Walmart seems to work.

This is the sort of thing that gives me pause when considering these apps. Amazon is bad enough for its bite-sized, just-in-time purchasing ability. "That's a dynamite deal, I'd be crazy not to!" Yeah, but you didn't need it to begin with.

I actually find having the Keepa price tracker just below the item usually has me buying less. I see it was cheaper last week, so I just wait, then never buy it. If it's something I really want(and will buy at some point but no rush), I'll put a price alert in. Generally though I think it has prevented purchases for me.

Just an FYI but free wifi on WestJet flights went away quite a while ago. WestJet has partnered with Telus and Starlink to revamp their onboard internet but it hasn't launched yet and it is unknown whether or not free wifi will return based on RBC MasterCard or WestJet status.

One thing I do is always to contemplate disposal in 6 months and how that might look like. It's stopped me from many dumb purchases, but not all.

Disposal being what I'd get selling it and the headache I'd have if I didn't use it, gifting it to someone I know or throwing it away/donating it. Usually that thought stops me (or at least slows me) from getting stuff that's borderline. I know there's some crazy Kijiji vagrants out there, so the line between gifting/free pick up and junking is whether a friend of mine would be happy to have it or would think I'm leaving junk at their place.

Stuff that doesn't need disposal after 6 months is obviously just pure bonus/gravy. It doesn't slow me down too much because my parents have a ton of ####ty quality stuff at home they refuse to upgrade themselves. I upgrade mine, they upgrade theirs too. It started with phones and then it kept going to things like tools, charging cables, power banks, kitchen stuff, old networking gear etc. Basically I started getting tired of going over, needing to help fix something and realizing there was nothing at hand to help do it, so going back home to grab stuff to help was a royal pain in the ass.

This past year I also committed to purging excess junk. Holy hell. In the last year, I swear I gifted nearly the volume of an entire 12' x 12' room floor to ceiling of stuff (bed frame, mattresses, extra furniture, supplies, utensils, kid clothes, building materials, rugs, toys, mismatched plates/bowls due to half broken etc.) and it still seems like I barely dented anything. But the new immigrants, new to Calgary + nothing in house etc. people were happy to get it for free.

"Holy ####, these plates and dishes are pretty nice."
"You'll see that the numbers are all messed up due to many being broken. We changed to a different style that's easier to purchase replacements that match."
"My stuff is all mismatched anyways and this is still a huge upgrade to the stuff I had before."
" win-win!"

We have a really good Exchange group on Facebook for our neighbourgood. Strict rules, time lines for picking it up or it goes to the next person, and a few people who are collection points for new immigrants/refugees, food banks, etc. It's been great for helping out people but also for giving away and taking in kids shoes/helmets/bikes/clothes/etc. We have a good family/friend network who pass stuff down to us, and anything that we don't use we pass to other family/friends or into the Exchange group.

It's so well used that people put food on there as well. We put our extra Pizzas from a birthdary party on there and someone picked them up in 10 minutes. Someone put their chinese food take out leftovers on there the other day. That one was funny.

Don't buy tools from Canadian Tire for regular price. It will eventually be on sale for up to 75% off.

Speaking of Canadian Tire. Do you collect their money with your Canadian Tire Triangle card? Use the app instead of presenting your card. You can enable savings that allows you to collect more CT money. Three times this year I've saved up over $150 and used it for a big purchase just buy scanning my app every time I buy at Canadian Tire, Mark's or Sport Check.

The Triangle program and PC Optimum program are kinda strange in the fact that typically it's just meh, but once in a while, there are ways to double and triple dip and then you're getting a hell of a deal.

Both worth investigating based on shopping habits.

Same with motor oil. I use the Flipp app to set alerts on sales for whatever I want to buy at CT and time my trips for the sales.
