Default Fort Mac Wildfire Thread

Wildfires in McMurray have jumped the river and things are getting hairy. Three communities under mandatory evacuation;

Scary

Yeah Fort Mac is potentially in serious trouble right now. We may need a separate thread for it.

Follow #ymmfire for updates. Apparently a whole trailer park is gone now. My brother owns a hair salon up there. It's nuts

News Update

CTV News has learned the Centennial Trailer Park has been destroyed in the fire.

Follow @BreannaCTV on Twitter, she's in the middle of it. Lots of good updates.

Really scary. Parents are visiting my brother and his wife and kids now up there now, they're all getting out.. slowly. A lot of really nasty videos and photos that I wish I didn't view at the moment but all you can do is sit back and hope for rain.

Slow go getting out but people are.

The CBC comments in the news make me sick. I've never been on the separation wagon until recently, but that amount of "Good on them" comments I think have really pushed me over the edge. Take our money in one hand, and slap us with the other.

Yeah, it's mayhem up here! Just came home from North of town and it's complete gridlock with people trying to get out. It's jumped the highway dividing the city. I'm in one of the areas not under evac right now but it's looking ugly and I'm in the wind's direction. Gonna pack some bags and get in the gridlock heading north I think. Things were looking good this morning but it's gotten bad FAST.

Apparantly all four lanes south of Fort McMurray are Southbound only. All gas stations are closed so that's a problem!

I'm too North of town to get South of the fire so I have no choice but to go North.

People getting turned around trying to head out south at Beacon Hill. Just had some family turned around. Dammit.

Never read comment sections. They will give you cancer. Especially CBC or Toronto Star comments - they are the left wing version of Sun Media commenters.

There are trolls everywhere on the internet and it is definitely not representative of the Canadian populace as a whole. CBC comment sections and the like should only be read if you want to have a laugh at dumb people.

You know to an extent that true, but there's just so much Alberta hate in this country and this is just a glowing example of this. People seemingly happy that a bunch of displaced Maritmers/Saskatchewan/Newfies that moved up North to do the job most other people wanted to do are losing their houses and livelyhoods is the straw that breaks the camel's back for me.

I really think the anti-Alberta sentiment is a lot stronger than people think. I'll leave it at that though, because this isn't what this thread is about.

There's so little Alberta hate it there. It's absurd
