Default Dallas on a long layover

This coming Friday I'll be in Dallas for about 7 hours on my way to Calgary.

Is it worthwhile to leave the airport and head downtown? How is the transit situation from the airport? Efficient and easy or slow and sketchy? What stuff should I check out while I'm there?

Thanks in advance CP!

What would you possibly want to do in downtown Dallas?

As I recall, there is no train to or from DFW; there may be a bus service, but I think that it is mostly taxis.

If you are flying on AA, can you just buy an Admirals Club pass (if you don't have one already) and simply conk out in the lounge?

You're looking at least 3-5 hours spent getting out of the airport, busing it somewhere, busing it back, and then, going back through international security.

You can take the DART right into downtown. It's almost an hour trip though.

I would certainly consider getting out and seeing something. Lounge access is great but 7 hours in a lounge is brutal as well. I don't remember any transit to the airport but maybe consider renting a car. Traffic can be pretty brutal on the freeways though. You could check out the JFK memorial. Maybe drive out and check out the Cowboys stadium if you are football fan (it is closer to the airport than downtown.) There are lots of museums in Dallas if that is your kind of thing.

Catch a short flight to Dallas Love Field Airport, and check out the Frontiers of Flight museum next door. Or I guess you could do it the boring way and take a taxi...

I would probably just stay in DFW and eat Popeyes until I was in a coma.

If I still lived in Calgary that would definitely be a plan, but I live in Louisiana now and I have 2 Popeyes by my house.... and I've eaten myself into a coma on several occasions there.

Dallas, hmm, been there once for a hockey tournament back in the 80s. I would say, check out Daily Plaza, Grassy Knoll and back to the airport?
