Only because Sean is injured and will be missing the tournament.

Now I know why Monahan didn't want to play.

McDavid should also be named the coach, assistant, associate, trainer, and medical staff

So Oilers management named the Oilers star Captain? Guess what? They're going to do it again in a month or so.

^ True, but it is nice to see that "given, never earned" remains the motto up north.

What I'm more interested in, is who picked Chia and TMac to lead NA? Bettman? Hockey Canada made all their own selections I assume, as did the individual hockey associations.

Once they were picked, it wasn't shocking McDavid is captain and Hamilton was snubbed.

It's truly incredible.

If I were the Oilers' brass, I would be doing everything I could to shelter him and relieve him of some of the pressure that the media and fans continually dump on him.

But what do the Oilers' brass do? Make him captain of this exhibition tournament! Let's pile more pressure on him!

It's like they are completely unaware of their prior mistakes with respect to handing the kids the keys to the city. COMPLETELY unaware.

The ongoing, REPEATED incompetence, and organization-wide, accepted expectation that things will simply work themselves out (it isn't our fault, just bad luck), is astounding.

Beyond belief, this-can't-possibly-be-real, levels of astounding.

Ex Oiler Tom Renney would be my guess. Or Nicholson asked.

From this NHL.com article:

Quote:
The six national teams playing in the tournament will be selected by their host federations. The NHL and NHLPA will jointly name the management teams for the North American Youngstars team and Team Europe.

Personally I would've given it to someone who's played more than 45 games in the NHL but that's just me.

Agree completely on the tournament ... pointless.

But with the Oilers I have to admit they don't have any one else. Ideally you'd like to avoid heaping pressure on the kid, but they don't have a guy that fits that mould at all.

Man are the Flames lucky that Giordano was around for a rebuild.

^you don't have to name a captain. Oilers would be better off to name three A's for next year and then give the C to McDavid next year if he's ready. What's the rush? Oh ya. Oilers. Forgot.
