2 year old boy snatched by alligator at Disney World
Just a horrifying incident at the Most Magical Place on Earth.
http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/15/us/all...ida/index.html
Quote:
An alligator snatched a 2-year-old boy Tuesday night in a lagoon at a Disney hotel near Orlando as his father desperately tried to save him.
A frantic overnight search to find the boy was unsuccessful, authorities said, but efforts are continuing Wednesday morning.
"This is still a search and rescue operation," said Jeff Williamson, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff's Office. "We are very hopeful. We are hoping for the best."
The child was on the edge of the lagoon when the alligator dragged him into the water, according to the boy's family, said Florida Fish & Wildlife executive director Nick Wiley. He cautioned that the investigation is still in an early stage and that officials need to interview at least two other families who may have witnessed the incident.
Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said the child was "wading ... along the lake's edge at the time that the alligator attacked."
Williamson said the boy was in less than a foot of water.
The family of four -- the boy, his parents and his 4-year-old sister -- was on vacation from Nebraska, Demings said. They arrived Sunday.
The parents watched as the alligator attacked the toddler at the Seven Seas Lagoon. The lagoon is connected to a series of canals which feed into large bodies of water.
"The father actually went into the water to wrestle his son from the grips of the alligator," he said. The father suffered minor scratches on his hand but was unsuccessful in getting his son back.
The mother also went into the water, trying to find her child, he said.
"The sad reality of it is it's been several hours, and we're not likely going to recover a live body," Demings said.

I took my boys to Orlando for Spring Break a few years back, and we stayed at a golf club style resort. One night there was a lot of excitement as a big gator was discovered in a big water trap lagoon. There were many little kids around.
They brought in some professional gator catchers (I guess it is a big business around Orlando). They were playing amplified sounds of a struggling animal to attract it. They had raw meat attached to giant fishing rods. Then they put a big noose around his neck when they bring him in closer. We did not get to see the catch as it was getting late.

I can't even imagine being the father trying to save your son from that.

Those poor parents, the guilt they must be feeling.
I mean an Alligator is an Alligator, but to see your kid being dragged off and there's nothing you can do.

Gators don't care about species, race, religion or sexual preference.
We should all be like the gator.

If the father was able to pack some heat as is his God given right, we wouldn't be having this discussion...
But in all seriousness, as the father of a boy similar in age, I could not fathom what the parents are going through. My condolences

Jesus that's terrifying to think about, myself having a kid that age I don't know how I would go on after seeing that and knowing you could do nothing to save your child. And yeah even though those last two were green text they still weren't funny or necessary.

Classier or not, green texts are never funny when it comes to incidents like this.

The fact that regulator75 uses green text tells you where his comedy's at. Remedial one liners are his thing, and I don't think he takes timing or the nature of the thread into considerination. He just makes blanket attempts at humor in any and all threads started.
Best just to scroll past it.

Sometimes you have to laugh in order to not cry.

Man, that's horrifying, like something out of a horror movie. I feel for the parents. I don't think they'll ever be able to forget that last image of their poor son being snatched away like that.

I would never make fun of someone elses loss. Too harsh and cruel IMO.

He's not making fun of someone else's loss. There was no mention of the family or the child. It was a juxtaposition of the recent events in Orlando and the gator accident. It presented something absurd to laugh at. I know humour isn't your strong suit but if you're going to criticize someone's joke you should at least be accurate in your assessment.

Not sure why the boy was in the water when there is signage saying no swimming and warning of gators. Walking along water there is dangerous even for an adult. My grandparents knew a lady who got grabbed by one in the 80s. People in their development would lose dogs to them and it was especially dangerous at night.
