Sikome Lake implements gate fees
This struck me as a complete surprise. I guess I never thought that they would charge for what is a very popular attraction in the summer. Its set to open June 25th and for a family day pass it will be $10.

I hope this means the lifeguards don't have to snag all the floating diapers anymore. They've got better things to do!

I don't like it.
It didn't mention when they will stop charging the fee's once the "upgrades" are complete. I bet they never will.

Just another tax on middle-class families.

I have no opinion either way, but as is tradition when Sikome is mentioned, I must now listen to this track.

If the money is actually invested back into the lake Im fine with the fee. If it is a user fee for the sake of a fee, not a huge fan. It will be interesting to see the attendance numbers at the end of the summer. If people stay away they won't need to open the south beach.

Seems reasonable. Public pools charge fees, neighbourhoods with lakes charge fees. As long as fees never exceed there operating costs which I doubt they will I'm good with it.

As long as the fees don't keep increasing to something unaffordable for families then I agree with the fees.

It's for us semi-rich white south Calgary folk who can't quite afford a private lake house.

Makes sense for us who never venture south
I actually asked my GF who has lived here since she was 9 and she didn't know this place haha. Only lived in the north though.
