Default Rescue 807 - June 14, 1986

Just wanted to make a post on the 30th anniversary of the crash of Rescue 807.

Rescue 807 was a Canadian Air Force Twin Otter on a search and rescue mission when it crashed in the mountains in the Kananaskis region.

My Grandfather was on that flight and sadly lost his life along with the rest of the searchers on that flight. I still remember the phone call to our house like it was yesterday.

RESCUE 807 - In Memory of our friends and colleagues who gave their lives on a Search and Rescue mission, June 14, 1986. You are always in our thoughts.
Capt. Ted Kates
Capt. Wayne Plumbtree
Sgt. Brian Burkitt

"That Others May Live"

And I've just found this, I never knew it was posted - the official air accident investigation.

Just a little more info. Rescue 807 was actually searching for a civilian plane, who went missing searching for another civilian plane - the crews of all 3 planes lost their lives.

A plaque stands in memory of all 13 people.

Is this the plaque just off the powder face trail? I've been by it a few times, but never actually read it.

Here is a great read of the full route up to it.

Really interesting story. Thanks for posting.
Reading some article, and it isn't very clear.
Were the civilians on the planes part of CASARA, or just "random" volunteers?
