Was Marc Savard's contract insured?
If so, has to be cap dump only, right?

I believe it was. Even if it wasn't insured, only 1 year @ $575k left.
Seems to be pure cap dump.
To buyout the last year will result in a $3.9 mil cap hit this year followed by a $191k cap hit the following year while costing only $191k for the next 2 years.

Clearing room for Wideman.
Florida needs to replace Brian Campbell ... Wideman is younger, cheaper, and puts up more points than Campbell and Tallon liked him enough to acquire him once before.
Make the deal, Brad!

--George Richards-- ✔ @GeorgeRichards
#FlaPanthers have been clearing cap room with Gudbranson/Savard deals. Close to long term w/ Trocheck, talking w/ Campbell
--George Richards-- ✔ @GeorgeRichards
#FlaPanthers feeling good about Brian Campbell returning...may add additional defenseman via trade or FA as well. Also looking for goalie.
CapFriendly @CapFriendly
#CapFriendly can confirm that #Panthers will have a bonus overage of roughly $1.42M next season. Trading Gudbranson also saves FLA cap space

Savard was on LTIR though no?
I thought they could exceed the cap by 10% in the offseason and then LTIR Savard again?

Campbell is 37. He's at that age where any moment his play could fall off a cliff. I don't see the point of resigning him unless it's a one year deal.

Watch Savard come out of LTIR, absolutely light it up for the Devils & the Devil's also gaining a 2nd rounder for 2 minor leaguers. How slick would that be. Those are things movies are made of.

Could also be the Devils adding salary to stay above the floor.
