Default Electrical hand tool repair

I've got a fairly expensive electric hand polisher (Cyclo type 5) which has suddenly decided to quit working. The gears from the motor shaft turn the polishing heads fine, so I presume there is something wrong with the motor itself. It is long out of warranty, so shipping it back to the States for service is not a realistic option.

Can CP recommend any shops that can check / test and potentially fix this thing for me? A new one is $500+...

Did you check the manual?

This indicates it might just be the brushes. Page 6.

It shouldn't be too hard to open the case and replace the motor. You can probably order the exact same motor from ebay if it really is the motor that's failing.

If you don't want to do it yourself, I've had some success at Demand Electric Tool & Repair in the North. I only went there to buy some saw parts but they seemed to know what they were doing.

I've taken the motor housing off, and the brushes seem ok, as do the commutators and windings. However, that is where my knowledge ends. Maybe I'll check out Demand Electric tomorrow.

Check the on-off switch.
