Default Calgary Flames off season workout

What workout routine do the Calgary Flames do in the off season? Mark Scheifele works out with Gary Roberts, do any of the young Flamed do anything like this?

I am not 100% sure on this info but this is what I have been able to gather from various sources such as calgaryflames.com CP, listening to various interviews, twitter feeds etc.

The Flames strength and conditioning coach is Ryan Van Asten, he was previously with the LA Kings and won 2 Cups. He is supposed to be one of the best in the business and recently some videos have been put up on Calgaryflames.com

I know that some players such as Ferland, Klimchuk and others have stayed in Calgary the last few seasons working out with Van Asten, shows dedication and I suspect the training is free. The teams coach also gets every player set up with an off-season program including videos and other information.

Players like Sam Benett and Dennis Wideman have worked out previously with Andy O'Brien who has been Crosby's trainer for years and I believe is originally from Calgary. He has developed quite the following over the years with NHL players and runs an annual high altitude training camp in Vail, Colorado.

When Matt Stajan was traded to Calgary he hired Gary Roberts and worked out with him along with some other players such as Stamkos.

Training is the responsibility of the player but I have a feeling that this may change in the future. Teams are investing so much money in these players and they aren't around to see what type of advice is being offered so this may be an avenue the wealthier teams pursue to train and gain an edge.

Saw this video last year on Players Tribune. Enjoy!

come for a visit to kelowna and hang out at the capital news center (cnc) complex in the mornings. nhler's are regularly on the ice early (6am-ish) and then they go workout in the gym.... you could even workout with them!

Don't know how to imbed.

He also plans on visiting Gaudreau out east and all the Ontario boys etc later to see how they're doing.

IIRC Giordano works out by himself. It works well for him as he's self motivated but I bet a lot of players need more competition and leadership. Jooris joined him last off season.

Sean Monahan, Mark Giordano, Josh Jooris & Derek Grant are actually all working out together this summer in Toronto with Bryan Marshal, strength coach and founder of Milo's Athletics.

Here's a clip of Monahan and Giordano competing with one another on the rowing machine: https://twitter.com/coachbmarsh/stat...60621699342336

Jooris is RFA right? Must be tough for bubble guys like him to be working hard over the summer not knowing if they'll even have a contract offer

Par,

Although I don't play hockey at any high level the workouts are usually very sport and player specific depending on their needs, position etc.

A good website to check out is stack.com I believe as they have sport specific workout videos and information on things like diet, rest, recovery etc.

The Flames former coach was a guy named Rick Hesketh who was their coach for many years. He does personal training now for hockey players in Jr. hockey, offseason etc. On his website he lists some videos which can be found here http://richhesketh.com/videos.asp

Good luck!

Shinkaruk also works out with that dude who helps train sid in the summer. It's one of the reasons he told the Canucks no to stop train with him and only work out with Canucks people. I for one don't like Cindy but I'm sorry but if I'm a gm and one of my prospects are training with one of the best in the game I am not going to tell him to stop and only train with are own people. That was one of the reasons why the traded him to us.I remember after the news broke the sports net guys was telling that store about him .

Working out with NHL, that would be awesome, imagine if you got into a fight with one of them(more than likely would not happen but still funny it it did).

I remember reading an article about Lee Stempniak training with one of the new York Giants trainers and how he supposedly added 20 lbs of muscle in the off season .

That's a bit much for a hockey player but that's what I remember reading.

You can tell Monahan has a ways to go in his physical maturity. Gio's arms and shoulders are huge. Monahan will be a beast when he reaches 25ish.
