Little girl in Tuscany passes away after being accidentally backed into by her father
http://calgaryherald.com/storyline/a...veway-has-died
I didn't see a thread on this.
This saddens me so much.
Everyone hug your children tonight and please be wary of your surroundings. This could happen to anybody. I'm constantly worried about this when I leave the house that my son may be behind my car.

Man, that's heart wrenching. That's the kind of guilt that's hard to come back from.

Terrible news. I don't know how you even go on after something like that happens. It's wonderful to hear that her family is donating her organs. What a great gift!

Awful, just horrible. How can anyone recover from the guilt of such a horrific accident.

One of my biggest fears. Not just losing a child but being accidentally responsible.

That truck looks fairly new. It sure seems like manufacturers should have been mandated to put backup cameras on trucks and suvs earlier than they were.

Horrific. This happens all the time too. I had a little guy roll behind me on a scooter as I was backing out a few minutes ago and immediately asked myself, do I look behind me enough when I back out of the driveway?
Big fear of mine as well. When I first started driving I had nightmares about running over kids.

This happens often unfortunately.
Heres an incident in April in Copperwood.
http://calgaryherald.com/news/traffi...heast-driveway
http://www.kidsandcars.org/back-overs.html
Quote:
Every year, thousands of children are killed or seriously injured because a driver backing up didn't see them. A backover incident typically takes place when a car is backing out of a driveway or parking space.
|
Quote:
In the U.S. at least fifty children are being backed over by vehicles EVERY week. Forty-eight (48) are treated in hospital emergency rooms and at least two (2) children are fatally injured every WEEK.
• The predominant age of victims is one year old.
• Over 60% of backing up incidents involved a larger size vehicle. (truck, van, SUV)
• Tragically, in over 70% of these incidents, a parent or close relative is behind the wheel.

Social media logic:
4 year old falls into a gorilla pit, gorilla dies. Mother is a monster and child should have known better. 7 year old stands behind moving vehicle and dies. Just a mere accident.
Thoughts and prayers to the family

This happened to some friends of ours. The mom ran the daughter over.
Horrible.
My heart goes out to the parents.

I try to back into the driveway whenever I can, partially because of this. I live on an inside corner, so when I approach from the street you get a pretty good view if anyone is around. I feel a lot better about backing in than my view backing out.

I heard about this incident a week or so ago and found it was on my mind more than any other recent news story. Then today while driving I heard that Sloan had passed and I cursed like a sailor.
I watched the CTV evening news tonight and with the images and commentary I broke down and cried. My heart goes out to the Family and I feel so much compassion for the father. I hope he finds a way to get through this horrible tragedy, I don't think I could cope with it.
Constant thoughts and prayers to the family.

Both are very unfortunate accidents. You should never take your eye off a 4 year old though. Seven year olds tend to have a bit of a longer leash.
Either way, it is tough for the parents. Everyone screws up sometimes but the consequences are usually so horrific.

This is about as awful as circumstances can be. I can't imagine I'd make it were I to back over and kill my only child. This father has other children, and he has to make it through for their sake.
Best wishes to the family. So tough though.

A horrible and tragic accident to be sure.
An interesting discussion came up with some co-workers tonight though; can someone explain the reasoning for starting a crowdsourcing/fundraising campaign of $100k in this instance?

To pay bills so the parents don't have to worry about work at this time?

The news story mentioned the mom was a nurse, and she provided support until ems arrived.
Horrible story, hard to imagine what the father is going thru. I hope that somehow he can find some peace

Absolutely devastating gosh my heart goes out to that family. I used this same topic at one of our safety meetings when I heard about the incident in cooperwood. As a father myself I couldn't imagine the pain and suffering that family is going through. They'll be in my prayers
