Fair contract I suppose. Makes Backlund's look good.

Isn't he their 4th line C? That seems like a huge over-payment.

Considering the Islanders middle-six is so bad, the Cizikas line could really be anywhere from the 2nd to 4th line any night, and they are pretty productive for a fourth line. But I still think that's a rich deal for him.

3rd/4th line center, yeah. Had 30 points this season though and is also one of their key penalty killers.

I'm sure the notion here is that once Okposo walks they move Strome to 1RW and Cizikas becomes their 3C behind Nielsen. But it's still mostly an RFA deal, seems a tad pricey.

I would say yes. They are both overpaid imo, but Cizikas is more valuable. But as Corsi alluded to, I'm sure they're expecting Cizikas to play a bigger role next season, particularly if they lose Martin (and perhaps, the chemistry from that line)

The Islanders 4th line is the best in the league and Cizikas is the straw that stirs the drink. That line wins then games

Too long. He's fine but there is zero need to take on risk to have him signed for five years.

Just when I was starting to think Garth Snow had figured out how to manage. He reminds us why he was a punchline of the league before he fluked out the Leddy and Boychuk moves.

Hard to believe some people like this move. Tying up that much money into a fourth/third liner for five years is ridiculous.

30 points is solid production and given he's 25 year old center I'm willing to bet he's much easier to move in a trade than say Lance Bouma on his current contract. Nobody is saying it's the signing of the century but they are going to lose a few players to free agency and have the money to spend to keep their own guys which is never a bad plan.

so the salary cap has now gotten to a place where 4th line guys are paid over $3.0 million per year (although I will acknowledge that there are likely about 2 or 300 other guys in the world at his skill level)....... still makes you want to say yikes!!!

Not going to argue that Cizikas is more valuable than Bouma because I agree, but it's just bad management to lock up a fourth liner for that long. This contract will impact their roster decisions for the next 5 years. Not a good plan at all. Just because you are losing guys to free agency, doesn't mean it makes sense to hand out 5 year deals to fourth liners.
Also, Bouma at 2 years left is much easier to swallow than Cizikas at 5 years.

there's different levels to "fourth liners". This isn't an 8 minute per night plug, this a 30 pt center who played almost 15 per game in the playoffs and is a great PKer. Still a lot of term for a bottom six player, but it's not outrageous.

The Cizikas contract does swallow three years of UFA availability which in my opinion makes the dollar value look a heck of a lot better.
