NBA player killed breaking into wrong apartment
http://www.dw.com/en/nba-player-deje...ent/a-19291360
Unfortunately, it looks like he went to the wrong apartment, thought his girlfriend locked him out, which led to banging on the door and breaking in.
Of course with break and enter laws in Texas it's almost automatic you're going to get killed by a homeowner if you break in regardless of circumstance. Just shoot and ask questions later.
Quote:
New Orleans Pelicans guard Bryce Dejean-Jones was fatally shot Saturday after breaking down the door of a Dallas apartment. But those who knew him say 23-year-old may have thought he had been locked out of his girlfriend's unit, which is in the same building.
"He went to the wrong apartment, unfortunately, and I think he thought his girlfriend locked him out, so he was knocking on the door, banging on the door," said the player's agent, Scott W. Nichols. "So one thing led to another."

What a bizarre story, that will no doubt change as more information comes out, but right now that article doesn't make sense. It contradicts itself from the headline all the way through, including the quote in the original post.
If he did really break down the front door, and then kick open the bedroom door, you can't blame the guy for shooting him. That's not a wild west Texas thing, it's a reasonable reaction. And what kind of mood was he in if he did break down the door, even if he thought it was his girlfriend's apartment? Probably not a good one, if he did that.
Also, the two photos of the basketball player look like two different people.

I may be mistaken, but I believe the other pic is of that psycho who GoPro'd himself shooting his ex-colleagues live on air
What a strange (and sad) story, and I don't know WTF is up with that pic

One question, if he thinks he is being locked out of his girl friend's unit, why does he feel he should break in. I mean it's his girl friend's unit, not his own. If she locked him out, just leave and come back another day.

Most of the reports Ive seen say that it was an estranged acquaintance's unit, not a current girlfriend. Some stories seem to spin it positively that he was simply locked out by accident. The other stories seem to make more sense.

Yeah if he's breaking in to his gf's place then maybe it's a good thing he got the wrong place. Otherwise this news story might be about her tragedy...

Oh, why would he be knocking on this girl's apartment then? Providing that he HAS a current girlfriend. Was he drunk? Or doped up. I agree with Cecil, may be it's a good thing that he got the wrong apartment, if he is kicking the door down, his estranged girlfriend would not have been able to defend herself.

Yeah, I'll wait for more info, but why would he be breaking into any apartment?

So he was banging on and kicking in doors. Of an ex-girlfriends place. . . . yeah I'm with the crowd that I'm glad he got the wrong place or we might be looking at an entirely different tragedy.
To a point
I'm not happy to see anyone ending up dead.

Not pro-gun by any stretch, but if a 6'5" plus super-athlete kicked in my door, and I had a gun at my disposal, I'm not gonna try to reason with him and ask him if he'd like to talk it out over tea and crumpets.
Inb4 "But he should shot him in the leg!!"
I know someone's thinking it.

I have to ask wouldn't the player know his girlfriends apartment decor enough to know he was in a different unit once he got the bedroom? I suppose it was pitch dark and the voice of man further enraged him thinking she was cheating on him? Regardless you can't go breaking anyone's door down including your girlfriend's. Tragic but very avoidable.

Surprisingly many people seem to have trouble grasping that. Unfortunately.

Yes, it is. But the way I look at this is he has no right to kick the door down EVEN if it's his current girlfriend's place. I'm sorry to see a life is lost but I feel more sorry for the man who shot him because now that man has killed someone and it's going to stick to his conscience forever.

Because you frequently break into random apartments in the middle of the night without fear of being shot in Canada ?

well, when I was younger and lived in an apartment down behind the holy cross hospital, normally I would go through the back door, walk up the stairs to the 4th floor and turn right and my apartment door was right there. I came home drunk one night and entered though the front door as opposed to the back door, did the same procedure, and was fumbling around trying to get my key to work in the door for about 5 minutes before I figured out, I had the wrong apt.
So, yes, had that been in America, I would probably be dead. Half the population there lives for the moment they can fulfill the NRA dream of taking down a bad guy. Castle doctrine ring a bell?
