Default Fort McMurray Family in need of support

Good Morning CPers,

As of this morning a colleague of mine has a family moving into a rental property of hers on May long weekend. They are a family of four with two boys 8 and 12 years old. They have lost everything and we are attempting to put together some supplies for them. Literally any household item is needed along with the normal day to day use items (personal hygiene items, food, etc). I know CP has been extremely generous already but I thought for those who may not have financial means to support but may have some extra stuff laying around this could be a wonderful way to help out. The home is in Tuscany and they will be arriving in it on the long weekend. Thanks for any help they can get, my school is rallying to support this family as well. So far we have:

some clothing
a wii system for the boys
potentially bikes for the boys
some pots & pans

Thanks again, I am proud to be living in a country that takes of their own to this extent.

We just upgraded Ironhorse Jr.'s bike, so have a surplus kids bike (Norco 20", c/w front suspension). It needs a bit of TLC on the gear shifters, so if a knowledgeable someone can fix the gear shifters (likely need new cables or something) we will gladly donate the bike.

Ironhorse,

I can have the cables replaced by a friend who works in Cochrane at a bike shop. I live in Tuscany near where the family will be living if you can drop it off there or I teach at Centennial High School if you prefer to drop it off down south. Thanks.

I always tend to have xmas presents that I never use. ex. mugs, cups, etc

I'll have a look after work to see what I can find. If they don't need it maybe someone else will

Would like to help for sure, please let me know if the list expands/ if any help is needed physically moving things.

Or, perhaps we can even have the fridge stocked for them upon their arrival, if they were to have a list of some sort? Would be happy to take care of that, so they can have some groceries at least when they arrive.

Any way I can help that weekend please let me know, will be around.

If you can get intel on the sizes of all four I'm sure we could outfit them. I bet I'm not alone having a shirt or two in my closet that I bought, wore once, and then discovered it didn't quite fit well and it's been hanging in the closet since. Any known hobbies would also be good to know about.

The boys need a plush Harvey or two (even if they happen to be Oiler fans) and they need some hockey sticks and other sporting equipment. A couple of ball gloves and frisbees would go a long way.

Also simple things like pens, paper, tape, etc. Books for all of them.

Heck we should just raise some special funds for a big Walmart gift card and then they can get whatever they want.

How much clothing do you have...

We just went through my youngest sons stuff and have a bag ready to donate somewhere.

Would definitely work for the 8 year old.

Pants, shirts etc... may even be able to scare up a good coat or two.

Let me know.

So far we have a few bags to take to the family to go through. Whatever remains the school will move along to the general collection of clothing for evacuees.

Maybe draft an items needed list, so people avoid duplication when giving to help out

If anyone needs a place to drop stuff off in the SE, they can drop it by my place in Copperfield. I'll make sure it's delivered either right to the house or to WinnipegFan.

PM me to set up a time.

We have this Hamilton Beach drip coffee maker that we are no longer using. The coffee level window is a bit coffee stained though, but if they would like it just shoot me a PM.

If they still need cutlery I have a full set (8 each) I'd gladly donate. Just let me know. Also have dishes/bowls/coffee cups if needed

Thanks to everyone who helped support this family! They are incredibly grateful. Through tears of gratitude they send their thanks for all that we supplied. I am not sure how to upload a photo onto the board, if someone can help me with this I can email you a photo of the family as they arrived today.

Thank you for coordinating everything. Without someone steering donations, it's all left as good intentions.
