Is 6th the highest the Flames will pick for a decade?

The Calgary Flames have a good core and they will likely, add to the core this summer, the Flames will probably add a good starting goalie, which will make them a better team, the question I have is, have the core the Flames have now and the pieces, they will add over this summer, is the 6th the highest the Flames will draft for decade or will there be another, year where they are picking this high?

A decade is a ridiculously long time. Brodie will be old by then.We might only have 2 or 3 of the same players.

let's hope so. I want The Flames to be the poster child of rebuilds, unlike the others who need 2304923852490548534908 first overall picks.

LOL you can't predict what will happen season to season, let alone the next 10 years.
 What an odd poll.

Well from 1999 to 2012 we never drafted 6th or higher and there were some lean years in there.

Unless we are talking Mulletville.

That tire fire is easy to predict.

I sure friggin hope so. 5 years, I'd bet on it (depending on how the summer goes), but 10 years is too long to predict.
Also the Flames will miss the playoffs on the last day next season and draft Nolan Patrick.

I think a decade is too long to predict. But I do think it is the highest we will pick for 5 years.

With the draft lottery, the Flames might make top 3 even if they barely miss the playoffs, so I'll vote no.

Plus, it looks more and more like the parity that the league wants is settling in. It seems like the past few years, we had several teams fighting for a few spots down to the wire. There could be a year where Flames just squeak in or just finish outside.

The better question is, is 26th the lowest we'll finish in the next 10 years. We could trade for a draft pick or win a lottery and pick high and it is not really relevant to what you're asking, which is, is this the worst team we'll see for the next 10 years.
To answer your question, yes, probably. As you point out, we have a young core that should be around for the next decade, or close to it, and should improve. And teams that are bad now are really bad because of the importance of young players on ELCs. We might have some middling years but not bottom 5 bad years. Hell, this year shouldn't have even been this bad but for historically putrid goaltending.

We have drafted higher than 6th just once in the teams entire history in Calgary - so I would say that it would be a pretty good goal to have to not draft higher than 6th in the next 10 years.

Really shows the importance of picking a good player with the pick this year.
No Rico or Daniel please, moar Monahan.

What about Stillman? He's usually the forgotten man when Flames fans talk about our 6th overall selections.

Any year out of the playoffs could be top 6. Better question would be "Will the Flames finish bottom 5 again in x number of years"
